sienna sat at her kitchen counter, staring into her untouched coffee, the steam curling up in lazy tendrils.
the morning light streamed through the windows, casting golden streaks across the floor, but she felt none of its warmth.
her fingers curled around the ceramic mug, but she didn't take a sip. she couldn't. her mind was still tangled in last night—every glance, every touch, every moment where she almost said it.
but she hadn't.
she had wanted to. the words had burned at the back of her throat, pressing against her ribs like a secret too big to keep. but they never came out.
marianna and elise were still curled up on the couch from their impromptu sleepover, half-awake, groggy from too much late-night overthinking and not enough sleep.
elise stretched, letting out a groan, while marianna shifted, rubbing her eyes blearily.
sienna hesitated, pressing her lips together before finally admitting, "i more than like matt."
elise's eyebrows shot up. "well, yeah. we knew that."
sienna exhaled sharply, sitting on the armrest of the couch. "no, i mean... i think i love him."
marianna and elise exchanged glances before turning back to her, their expressions softening.
"but you're scared," marianna guessed.
sienna nodded, staring at her hands. "the only other person i ever loved was garrett. and that left me with nothing but heartbreak."
elise reached for her hand. "matt is nothing like garrett."
