Narrator POV:
Johnson stood still, appalled at the seventy letters stacked neatly inside the small box. He couldn't believe it. This little box had the answers to the girls' deaths. How did Lewis get it? He couldn't find a single piece of paper when he had searched.
"How did you?.." Johnson began.
"One of the mothers dropped this off. Said that she found it and read the letters inside already and that this explained every thing we need to know." Lewis replied.
Johnson gently grabbed the box off of Lewis's desk and closed the lid. "Can I read the letters in my office?" He asked.
"Be my guest. It's better to read them alone anyway." Lewis answered, his voice slightly cracking. He had a daughter of his own and he couldn't imagine what the parents of the kids were going through right now. And the letters didn't help.
Johnson left Lewis alone in his office and walked off towards the elevator. When the doors opened, he pressed the two button and waited patiently for the old contraption to make its way upstairs. A minute later, the doors slid open and Johnson rushed out and down to the end of the hallway, which was where his office was located.
He quickly stepped inside his office , shutting and locking the door behind him. He didn't need anyone barging in while he was reading the letters. He needed time to think.
Johnson sat down in his leather chair and set the box down on top of his desk. With shaky hands, he opened the lid and saw a note taped inside it.
"Please read these letters in the order of our deaths. Things will make more sense this way."
Johnson immediately knew which girl that had died first: Mackenzie Ziegler. He shuffled through the envelopes until he found the one labeled Mackenzie Frances Ziegler: Anxiety, Letter One.
He pulled out the envelope and it had already been ripped open, due to the mother who had found the box. Johnson slid his fingers into the envelope and grasped the piece of paper tucked neatly inside. He took a deep breath before unfolding it and beginning to read.
Dear Diary,
School has been worse than usual. Fat, ugly, talentless, and loser have become apart of my days now. I tried to talk to Maddie about it, but she just brushed me off and said she was busy. But I'm used to that by now. She never talks to me anymore. She doesn't believe that I'm bullied. But I am.
Rachel Darwin, Sarah Anderson, and Gabbi Stevens make my life heck at school. They're the ones that caused me to start having panic attacks. I would literally scream and cry at the thought of having to go to school to face them. My mom and sister thought I was being overdramatic. But I wasn't. To help you understand, here's what they do:
Today, Gabbi came up to me and told me to kill myself because everyone hates me and that I'm just a waste of space. In Science class, Sarah passed me a note that said I was a fat and ugly loser and that I should just die. And then Rachel shoved me to the ground because I had to walk past her to get to the cafeteria for lunch and she told me that I was a mistake and that I should have never been born because the world would be a happier place without me.
That's just a taste of what happens to me during a school day.
And on top of that, my own family doesn't even believe me.
Maybe I am a waste of space.
Love,
Mackenzie Frances ZieglerJohnson felt his heart twist at Mackenzie's words. The poor girl was being bullied and her family was too stupid to see that she was hurting.
This was going to be harder than he thought.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••The first letter has been read!
Now, Johnson won't be mentioned in every chapter. Each chapter will be a new letter, maybe two letters a chapter. He's reading the letters so you'll get to read them while he's reading without the interruption of how he feels. Besides, the girls' letters are the most important thing here.Question: Why do you think Mackenzie's first letter has the word Anxiety on it? Do you think her other letters will have it? And do you think the other girls' letters will have something like that?
Vote and comment please!
Love you guys😘😘
