The next day someone new was sat on the sofa staring at us when we walked in.
"And you are?" Adam asked politely.
"Christina and Blake talked to the producers, they are worried about you Adam. I'm a counsellor, a therapist of sorts, they hired me to help you out."
"Nope. I have Nat. I don't need anyone else." Adam rushed to reply, shooting me a scared glance. The look in his eyes was similar to that of a caged animal, I really felt for him.
"He's been struggling to sleep, we're working on it. That's why he's been a little grouchy recently. There's nothing else to it really." I added taking a step closer to Adam.
"The producers aren't giving you a choice. Two people have raised concerns, Christina was shaken up by what you did. You can either come to my office and talk to me or you lose your place as a coach." She sighed.
"It'll be fine. Behave yourself. And I'll wait here for you." I whispered in his ear, he nodded slowly although still looked petrified of the woman.
"Okay baby. See you soon." He pulled me in for a proper kiss before following the counsellor woman. Blake wandered in not long later and I just glared at him.
"What's your problem?" He chuckled.
"You." He raised an eyebrow, which I'm guessing is his way of saying continue. "Adam just got dragged off to counselling. I know you think you're helping but you aren't."
"He's not been like this before. Ever. You say it's normal for him, you barely know him. I've been working with the ass for years, I know what he's like and it's not this. Sure, he has a short fuse some days. But nothing close to the way he acts at the moment. It's not right. I want the real Adam back, so yeah, I went with Christina to get him the help he needs."
"God. You are so stupid. Trust me. This is only going to make things worse." I shook my head in despair and went to hide in Adam's dressing room. I took out my phone and sent Jesse a text, he phoned not minutes later asking for a full explanation. He agreed with me; this is only going to make things worse.
I must have fallen asleep on the sofa in Adam's dressing room, because I woke up when the door slammed shut. Opening my eyes I saw Adam sobbing his heart out.
"Oh god, baby what's wrong?" I asked, moving closer to grab his hand.
"I can't do it. I won't." He sobbed, pulling me into his chest and holding me close.
"Hey. Shh. It's going to be fine. I promise." He didn't respond, only continued to cry. "I'm going to call Jesse and tell Carson that you need some time before going out there okay." He nodded, still refusing to talk anymore. I sent Jesse the SOS text and went to find Carson. Bad luck seems to be following me around, because Carson was with the rest of the coaches. "Carson, I need to talk to you."
"Nat. We need Adam."
"Are you not listening? I need to talk to you privately." I repeated.
"We really don't have time for that."
"Fine." I snapped. "Adam will not be available for a while. He's currently sobbing uncontrollably in his dressing room thanks to the counsellor you forced on him. He's barely said a word apart from that he can't and won't. So I suggest you postpone this shit. Not to say I told you so. But I told you so." And with that I stormed back to the dressing room to find Adam in the exact same position he was in when I left. It physically hurt to see him like this, I wrapped my arms around him and just sat in silence until Jesse walked in.
"Hey buddy." He said simply, dropping onto the floor next to us. "You know, the guys are worried about you. Blake and Carson, the other coaches too."
"I don't care." He sniffed sadly, turning to hide his face under my arm.
"Don't be like that Adam. What about your job?"
"I can't do it anymore. I don't want to be here. I can't be here." He started crying again. "I can't trust myself. I don't want to do it. Don't make me."
"Adam we would never make you do something you don't want to." Jesse sighed. "Are you sure, you always loved The Voice, is this some shit from that counsellor?"
"I hurt people Jesse. I should stay away from everyone. I should just make music and preform. Not make people put up with me."
"People love you Adam." I assured him.
"No they don't. They love my fame. You guys love me. You guys are all I have. And the band." Then anything else he said was lost in the sobbing, Carson and Blake chose this time to walk in.
"You should leave. Adam is resigning." Jesse informed them, receiving a nod from Adam.
"Adam, you can't leave us bud!" Blake protested.
"I can't do it anymore. You guys are right. All the time. And I. I need to leave. I can't carry on with the show anymore."
"Your contract states-" Carson began.
"I DON'T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT THE CONTRACT!" Adam roared, choking on the tears. "I can't be here and I won't be here." He shakily got to his feet, gripping my arm for support. "You guys pushed me over the edge. You made me see. So now I am leaving and I won't be coming back." I let Jesse take him out the room before turning to them.
"I told you to leave it the hell alone. He is convinced about this, I don't see this being something anyone can talk him out of. I don't know what the counsellor said to him, but he came in here an absolute mess."
"He can't leave." Carson sighed.
"He doesn't care. He won't turn up. He'll take this to court if he has too. I have never seen him this upset, ever. Don't bother. If he changes his mind he'll be in touch. Until then I suggest you think of something." I hurried after Jesse and Adam, joining them in the car and Adam was still crying. Although not as much as he was, he's quieter now which is just worrying me. "What happened with the counsellor?"
"Not talking about it." He shook his head and didn't say another word. As soon as we got home he ran into the house and locked himself in the bedroom
"This is not good."
"You got that right." I agreed. This can either work really well for him, or be the worst thing that's happened. Like, ever.
