Forty Five

The biggest things in life always started small.

As Oren watched Asher talk softly to Harry in the distance, he couldn't help but imagine what big things awaited him.

In the past months he'd learned to let go and let God. It was hard and each time he had to remind himself that no matter how much he thought he'd known, it'd never be able to sustain him. True sustenance came from God.

The Bean House didn't look like the Bean House that night, Harry had changed everything. The seats were cleared out to the corners to leave an open space in the center. The glass section of the ceiling let in natural light, casting a soft glow against the smooth wooden floors.

The place was slowly filling with friends and well wishers, their joy so palpable he could hold it.

"I've known him for the most part of my life and even I'm surprised" Asher's soft voice spoke up beside him.

He turned to her then, feeling the joy she exuded. She looked different, she always did.

"Do you need to rehearse?" She asked, nodding to his guitar and tearing down the tension.

He chuckled  "No. God's got me"

"Sure" she nodded solemnly.

Two arms went around their shoulders before Lara's face poked between theirs  "Hello, my two favorite people!"

He caught Asher's eye roll before smiling at her forward friend  "Someone's particular kit up tonight" he noted with a smirk

"Oh please!" Lara waved off  "I'm on fire every night!"

"—And day,I'm on fire always" she quickly added when an awkwardness filled the space.

"Where's Mark?" Asher asked to divert things another way

Lara swept her narrowed gaze through the room  "Hmm, that's strange...he was just standing there couple of minutes ago"

Oren wondered who Mark was before deciding it wasn't his business.

" Okay people, I just called Anya. She's five minutes away " Harry announced gingerly and the crowd grew with excitement as everyone retreated further away from the center of the room to the darker corners.

It was supposed to be a surprise.

"Here yellow, I'll need you to hold this" He came up and handed Asher a white gift box with a golden ribbon.

"For one, this is a particularly large ring box" Asher muttered and Harry burst into laughter. Oren couldn't hold back his chuckle either

"Oh silly, that's not the ring. Just hold it, don't open until I say so please" Harry instructed carefully

"Okay okay..." Asher rolled her beautiful eyes again

A few seconds later, everyone except him disappeared from sight. The lights were turned out, a kind man by the switch waiting for the go ahead.

Oren blew out a sigh, running his hand smoothly through his hair. Fixing his guitar, he mounted on the cushioned stool his gaze to the door as he smiled in wait.

**

Asher wondered what was in the lightweight box. Definitely not a ring.

"Harry says not to open that, Dora the explorer" she heard Lara's amused voice beside her

"I'm not going to, Lara the creep"

Lara chuckled and shook her head and she raised her gaze to the center of the room.
