THE moment Mr. Shue walked into the choir room, holding a stack of papers and looking like someone had just told him Journey was overrated, I knew something was wrong.

"I've got some bad news," he announced, setting the papers down. His shoulders slumped slightly, and he avoided making eye contact with anyone. "You know how we decided on Sing by My Chemical Romance for Regionals?"

The room fell quiet. We'd all been so sure that was our song.

Mr. Shue exhaled sharply. "I have a cease and desist letter from the band. We can't do it."

A collective gasp ran through the room. Puck groaned, rubbing his face in disbelief. "That was the perfect anthem."

Mercedes crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow. "How much do you wanna bet Coach Sylvester caused this?"

"One step ahead of you," Mr. Shue muttered, barely audible.

I couldn't help the way my stomach dropped. Of course, Sue had found a way to sabotage us again. She always did, but it still stung every time.

"So, what are we gonna do now?" Mercedes asked.

Rachel, who had been unusually quiet up until this point, sat up straighter. "I think we should write original songs for Regionals," she declared.

Santana immediately rolled her eyes. "All those in favor of voting Rachel down again?"

Without missing a beat, hands shot up around the room—except mine. I hesitated for a moment, considering the option Rachel had thrown out there. Sure, it sounded risky. But what other choice did we have? After everything we'd been through, could we really afford to let Sue win this time?

I glanced around the room. "You know what? As much as I doubted it before, I think Rachel's right. I mean, what other choice do we have?"

Mercedes raised an eyebrow, not convinced. "That's true, but if all the other teams are doing amazing songs, we're not gonna stand a chance."

"You haven't even given us a chance yet. How would you know?" I countered. "I bet if we all work together, we could crank out a few really good songs. Sure, the Warblers are insanely good, and Aural Intensity might have beat us before, but we can be better. Rachel, we could even write a song together."

Finn nodded. "I'm with Lila and Rachel. If these two can agree on something, it's probably a good idea worth considering."

Santana huffed in disbelief. "So suddenly you two are writing the music for Regionals? No way. Everyone should get a chance to write a song."

Mercedes turned her attention to Mr. Shue. "What do you think?"

Mr. Shue smiled. "I think we're doing original songs for Regionals."
