"YOU guys were amazing at Sectionals," Blaine said, sitting down across from me and handing me a cup of coffee.
I forced a small smile, the kind that barely touched my eyes. "Thank you," I replied.
Blaine leaned forward, studying me. He tilted his head, his brow furrowed slightly. "Even though I was a little confused as to why you were singing to someone in the wings. I saw you making eye contact with someone that had like... blonde hair. Maybe it was dyed. Is this a boyfriend of yours that I don't know about?"
My stomach churned. Of course he'd noticed. He was Blaine, after all—he picked up on everything. And of course, he'd think it was something simple, like a secret boyfriend. I wished that were all it was.
"I made a mistake," I admitted, lowering my gaze to the table. I fiddled with the napkin in my hands, trying to focus on anything other than this conversation.
Blaine's eyes widened slightly. "Whatever it is, it can't be as bad as the time you kissed the guy I had a crush on in 5th grade because you were mad at me."
I let out a small, involuntary laugh. "Hey, in my defense, I saved you because we found out he wasn't gay after that."
"Fine, whatever," Blaine said, rolling his eyes playfully. His smile faded as he leaned in, "What was your mistake?"
I hesitated, the words catching in my throat. "He has a girlfriend."
Blaine blinked, the surprise clear in his eyes. "Who?"
"The guy," I clarified, still avoiding eye contact.
"The one you were singing to?" Blaine asked, piecing it together.
I shot him a look. "Blaine, can you use context clues here?"
"Right, sorry," he said, leaning back in his chair with a sigh. "That sucks."
"Yeah," I said quietly, my hands twisting the napkin into a tight knot. "The worst part is, his girlfriend is one of my best friends. Ever since she saw me do my solo, she hasn't talked to me."
Blaine's expression softened. "Can't you just say it was all a misunderstanding?"
"I already tried," I said. "You know how bad I am at lying. She didn't buy it for a second."
"That's... rough. I didn't realize it was that kind of mistake."
I slumped back in my chair."Yeah, it's a mess. And now Quinn won't even look at me. I've tried explaining myself, but every time I do, it feels like I'm just making it worse."
He studied me for a moment. "You like him. I mean, this guy."
I hesitated, my voice barely above a whisper. "I don't know," I admitted. "I mean, yes, maybe. But that doesn't matter now, does it? He's with Quinn, and I've already hurt her enough."
