I woke up to the blare of my alarm, a mix of nerves and excitement coursing through me. Today was the first day of my sophomore year, and also the first day back after our epic loss at regionals. I threw off the covers and made my way to the bathroom, splashing cold water on my face to wake myself up fully. After carefully selecting my outfit – a brown mini skirt and a floral black shirt – and applying a bit of makeup, I headed downstairs.

The smell of freshly brewed coffee greeted me. My dad sat at the kitchen table, attention towards the morning paper.

"Morning, Dad," I said, giving him a quick kiss on the cheek.

"Morning, sweetheart. You ready for your first day back?" he asked, looking up with a smile.

"Yeah, I think so. I'm kinda nervous though." I replied, trying to sound more confident than I felt.

"You'll do great. Just be yourself," he encouraged.

"Thanks, Dad." I grabbed a piece of toast and my travel mug of coffee. "I gotta go. Don't want to be late."

"Drive safe. And good luck!" he called after me as I headed out the door.

I made my way to the driveway where my car was parked. Over the summer, I had finally gotten my driver's license, and today was my first solo drive to school. I took a deep breath, slid into the driver's seat, and started the engine.

The hallway was bustling with students, everyone excitedly chattering about their summers and first-day plans. I made my way to my locker, already mentally preparing for the day ahead. Just as I started putting my things away, I was abruptly stopped by Jacob Ben Israel, the school's notorious gossip blogger.

Holding a microphone in my face, he asked, "Lila Anderson, how does it feel being voted the hottest girl in school?"

I blinked, caught completely off guard. "What? No, I was not."

Jacob pulled out his laptop and showed me his blog. "Is it true that you got your boob job at the same place as Santana Lopez?"

I rolled my eyes and started walking away. "I didn't get a boob job, JewFro. I grew up."

Jacob followed me, determined. "How did you go from being the most unnoticed girl in school to, well... hot?"

"I don't know, maybe it happened overnight," I muttered, trying to shake him off.

Actually, I know exactly how it happened.

It all started a few weeks after school ended. I was deeply depressed about Jesse ripping out my heart and smashing it into a million pieces in the McKinley High auditorium. I was completely bedbound, living off pints of ice cream and endless rewatchings of Friends. It wasn't until a few weeks later when Kurt barged through my bedroom door and said, "Get out of bed, or else you're going to get fat and ugly."
