THE mere thought of my dad remarrying makes me sick to my stomach. The idea that some new person would come into my life and try to act like a mother, just because we both happen to care about my dad, feels wrong. I'm not ready to stand there as a bridesmaid at his wedding, watching him make promises to someone who isn't my mom.

"Lila, are you listening?" My dad's voice snapped me out of my spiraling thoughts. I blinked, realizing I had been staring at the kitchen counter, completely zoned out.

"What? Sorry," I muttered, my voice distant. I already knew what was coming, but that didn't make it any easier to face. The nervous fluttering in my stomach grew more intense.

"I told you that I'm... seeing someone," he said, his voice gentle but firm, like he was trying to ease me into it.

Right. That.

"...Are you sure you're ready for that?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.

"It's been well over a year since... everything happened. I think it's time for me to move on." He sounded so certain, so confident in his decision. But I wasn't. I wasn't sure if I was ready for him to move on, to bring someone new into the picture. It felt too soon, too... final.

I swallowed hard, trying to gather my scattered thoughts. "Uh, do I get to meet her?" I finally asked, my voice barely louder than a whisper.

"Yeah. Yeah, I was thinking tomorrow night she could come over for dinner," he said, like this was just a casual thing, like he wasn't introducing me to someone who could potentially become part of our lives forever.

"Oh." I paused, my mind scrambling for an excuse, for anything that could delay this inevitable meeting. "I was gonna get dinner with Blaine tomorrow night, actually," I lied, hoping to buy some time.

My dad raised an eyebrow, a hint of surprise crossing his face. "You're still hanging out with him?"

"Yeah, Dad. I thought you said it was okay. We're just catching up,"

He sighed, his expression softening. "I'm fine with it. I dunno. Tell him that I miss him and I love him."

I nodded slowly, as I brought my dish up to the dishwasher.

Mike's voice echoed through the choir room. "Dude was a wild animal," he exclaimed, his eyes wide, almost in disbelief.

Artie grinned weirdly. "Manimal,"

Brittany turned to Artie and said, "I'm so turned on by you right now," in the most casual way possible.

My thoughts kept circling back to Karofsky, and the way he's gotten away with everything. How has no one ever done anything about him? After all that he did to Kurt.
