I hear a voice, though I can't tell what they are saying. Who's here and where am I? The voice becomes understandable.
"He was brutally abused by his mother, that's where his scars are from. Except for the ones on his wrist, I can tell he did those. This young man, Winter, well he doesn't have it easy. Plus school kids are rough on him. He will be awake soon, Miss Hampton." Some doctor was talking about.
Miss Hampton?! Zandra is here!
"Are you sure he is alright?" Zandra asked? Oh her sweet voice!
"Yes, and look he is starting to wake up now. I'll be out there if you need me."
The doctor left and I kept pushing through to wake, now noticing that I was moving slightly. My eyes flutter open, and I can now not only feel but also see the tube across my face. Two half inch long ones up my nose giving me oxygen. Other tubes putting blood and other IV fluid in my veins.
I groan irritatedly.
"Hey." That beautiful voice caressed my face.
"Hey." I said, sounding hoarse.
"I'm so sorry, Winter. I--"
"It doesn't matter. I don't really care, people will always mock me and will always be listening. I don't blame you, Zandra."
"I'm still sorry..." She whispered, looking down at her hands.
"It's okay, don't worry about it anymore." I said.
"Do you need something to drink? Oh goodness! You're probably hungry too, its been two days. And our suspension was added two more days since we have both stayed here the past two days. They said our punishment wasn't fully spent since we stayed here."
"Why did you stay here?" I rasped.
"To make sure you were okay. I had to break into your room right after I called daddy." She said.
"I'm sorry."
"Don't be sorry... I was just really scared... There was a lot of blood and I didn't know if you were gonna wake up... I shook you while I waited for help, you just layed there. Limp and covered in blood, your clothes were barely even white anymore from laying in your own blood! I cried and I just kept shaking you. You didn't respond at all! Daddy ended up coming with some of the clinics doctors and he saw me and you... Your blood was all over my hands and my face from where I tried to listen to your heartbeat. Daddy pulled me out of the room but he let me come here." She rambled on.
"I'm sorry..." I just barely said, my throat and mouth dry.
"Let me get you some drink. Oh, you could probably also use a feeder, you need to drink." She said, leaving the room.
Alone, I looked toward my wrist. It was completely bandaged. But it was tinted red from where some had still come out of the stitches that I could feel in my skin.
She came back in then, holding a glass of orange juice.
"Do you still like orange juice in the morning?" She asked jokingly.
"Of course." I rasped.
I graciously took the cup, and only really noticed how thirsty I was when I drank all of it. She took the cup from my hand gently and set it on the bedside table.
"Did that help any?"
"Yes, very much. Thank you for getting me something to drink." I said and smiled at her.
Then she realized what I had finally managed to start doing the day we got caught. I can turn up the left side of my lips just slightly, no longer just a half smile being all I could do.
She gasped and touched the just barely curled upward corner of my mouth.
I hadn't been able to do anything with the left side of my face before this.
Wanting to still show her all of my progress, I forced a fake frown.
She laughed but still seemed delighted to know that I could now move the left corner of my lip slightly up and slightly down.
"Good job! See, you're getting there!" She enthused.
The door opened then and the doctor entered with a woman probably in her twenties. A blood donor, human.
She walked over to me, her neck bruised from bites from other students. She came over to me, obviously wanting the high my bite could give.
She leaned over me, her neck near my face. I bared my fangs, and the doctor gasped. I knew what she saw. Twelve fangs where there should only be four. I bit into the donors neck. I drank and then stopped a moment later.
The doctor and Zandra looked at each other. They looked shocked. Zandra has only seen my fangs a few times. The doctor never has.
"Um, Mr. Stone?" The doctor said slowly.
"Yes?" I replied.
"Um... Are you hungry?" She asked.
"Yes, may I have food?" I asked.
I felt magic build up inside me, just enough. It was going to be all I needed. I fought through the pain medication so that I could touch that light and glowing magic, ready to use. I believe Spirit is my favorite.
"Doctor Wallace?" I asked.
"Yes?"
I locked eyes with her, and immediately the magic took her.
"Don't tell anyone about my fangs or about your suspicions about me." I told her.
"I won't tell anyone, Mr. Stone." She said, dazed.
"Thank you for bringing me a donor. Let Zandra feed." I said, and released her mind.
"Miss Hampton, you should feed. You must be parched." Doctor Wallace said.
"Um, yeah I think I will."
Zandra walked over to the donor. Biting into the other side of her neck, she drank and quickly finished. Doctor Wallace took the donor and left.
"You can compel other vampires?" She asked quietly now that we were alone.
"Yes."
"Winter, that's crazy. I think you should tell the school about being multi-elemental. I don't think that much magic is safe for your mind." Zandra pleaded.
"No. They will want to do tests and experiments on me if they knew! I can't take that, Zandra. I can't."
"No! Maybe they will just try to help you! They only want to help!" She exclaimed.
Silence fell between us. They only want to help. How would she know?
"You told." I stated dryly.
"It wasn't like that! After I left your room, I walked around school because I needed air. They wouldn't let me in because they were still working on you. Samuel found me, he had three Spirit users with him. They compelled me!" She started crying.
"Zandra, look. Calm d--"
"They compelled me to tell them what all was so different about you! They told the Guardians and they came in here and questioned me! I'm sorry! I'm so sorry!" She sobbed.
"Zandra, come here. Please."
I pulled her to me and onto the bed. She put her head on my chest and cried harder. I rubbed my hand over her hair.
"Calm down. It's not your fault. I don't blame you. Its okay." I said gently.
"Daddy said that he won't let them hurt you or anything. He said that you're already placed as my Guardian when you graduate early in a week. Even though we got in trouble, and suspended. You are still going to take your tests and graduate early if you pass." She said, looking at me.
I looked into her beautiful blue eyes. I'm going to be her Guardian? Wow, I'm not just getting a charge that I'm trained and required to protect with my life. I'm getting a charge that I want to protect with my life.
"Please don't leave. I know you said you would have to if anyone found out, but please?"
I can't leave now. I'm going to be her Guardian. I've always worried about her not being protected like how she deserves. But now I know it's going to be me, I'm going to be who protects her. If it's true what her dad said.
"Please?" She asked again.
"I'm not leaving, but you know that they could still do it. They could be lying." I murmured.
"Daddy wouldn't lie to me about that. He knows that I want you as my Guardian." She whispered.
"Okay. I trust you, Zandra." I breathed.
She looked at me, her eyes shining. Dark blue sapphire. Gorgeous.
She pulled herself up to hover her face over mine. I brought my right hand up and traced her left cheekbone to her jaw and then across her lips.
She leaned a little closer and paused. Then leaned closer and paused. She continued to until her lips were almost against mine. I could feel a tiny bit of heat coming off of them as she stayed paused. This is driving me NUTS! Come on! Kiss me before I kiss you first.
She still just stayed there, oh so close and oh so dang tempting.
Come on, come on. Come on! I can't take this anymore!
I moved just barely and our lips touched. She seemed a little surprised. Especially since I was still breathing. Sorta. This time she did the same thing I did. She tried to breathe, but still against my lips. She parted her own slightly in the process of it.
I trailed my tongue over her bottom lip and just barely stuck it in enough to where my tongue touched both bottom fangs. She gasped.
We made out for about a minute and then I pulled away.
"Someone is coming. Actually some people are coming." I said.
Her dad, a Spirit user, a Fire user, a Water user, a Air user, and an Earth user. So it begins.
The door opens and they all step in. Her dad shuts and locks the door.
"Mr. Stone, how are you feeling?" Mr. Hampton asks.
"I'm fine. Call me Winter, please, Prince Taylor." I answer.
"Well Mr. Stone, don't act like as if you're not also special and Royal. You don't have to call me Prince if it's not a public event. Although tomorrow we will be testing your magic skills. Don't worry, its not like an experiment." He said.
"Than what is it?"
"Every novice has a test of their magic skills before they graduate. You were going to be exempt since we believed you hadn't specialized. And since you have, you will be tested. But your test will be public. Everyone will see. Because this is different and never heard of. Just as your other exams will be public." He said.
"What do you mean by royal? I thought Stone wasn't one of the Royal Families?" I asked.
"Well as it turns out, yes it's not but royal families are not just who comes from what blood. It is also from dominance in magic abilities and how strong a person's genes are who have them. If the person has strong enough genes to carry on that strength, then they became a new Royal family. If it's true what has been said about you, then you will become the first of your line. Prince Winter of the Stone Family." He explained.
"No. No because then I can't be her Guardian. No I won't except. I won't do it if it means I can't be her Guardian." I said.
"It will be worked out, if that's what you truly want, that you can still be her Guardian. But there will also be others."
"Fine. Okay." I agreed.
"Don't disappoint, Winter. Tell me now, if it's not true."
"What time is my test tomorrow?" I ask.
