The sound of your heels clicking against the marble floors of the courthouse echoed through the empty hallway. You'd just finished a grueling case, successfully defending a high-profile client. The weight of the day hung heavy on your shoulders, but the thought of going home to him made everything worth it.
Drew Starkey. The name that made hearts flutter across the world, but to you, he was just Drew—the goofy, caring guy who knew how to make you laugh after a long day and bring you coffee in the morning when you barely had the energy to get out of bed.
You and Drew had met almost two years ago at a charity event. You had been dragged there by your best friend, who insisted that you "needed a night out." You weren't exactly thrilled to be surrounded by celebrities and influencers, but somehow, fate had other plans.
Drew had spotted you from across the room, looking completely out of place in your sleek black dress and modest heels. When he finally approached you, you had no idea who he was—something he found both refreshing and hilarious.
"I'm Drew," he'd said with that boyish grin that could make anyone melt.
"Nice to meet you, Drew," you replied, offering a polite smile. "And what do you do?"
His eyebrows shot up in amusement. "I'm... an actor."
"Oh," you replied, slightly embarrassed. "I don't really watch much TV."
From that moment on, Drew was hooked. He loved that you weren't starstruck or obsessed with the Hollywood scene. You were intelligent, driven, and unapologetically yourself. And as your relationship blossomed, he became your biggest supporter, cheering you on from the sidelines as you climbed the ranks in the legal world.
Now, as you stepped out of the courthouse and into the bustling streets of downtown LA, your phone buzzed in your hand.
Drew: How's my badass lawyer doing?
A smile tugged at your lips as you texted back.
You: Just finished the case. Victory is mine.
Within seconds, your phone vibrated again.
Drew: Knew you'd crush it. Come home. I have a surprise for you.
Your heart fluttered, and without hesitation, you hailed a cab and headed to the cozy apartment you and Drew shared.
⸻
When you walked through the door, the scent of something delicious filled the air. Drew stood in the kitchen, wearing a white t-shirt and sweatpants, his hair slightly disheveled. He looked up and grinned when he saw you.
"Hey, superstar," he greeted, walking over to pull you into his arms. You melted into him, letting the stress of the day fade away as he pressed a soft kiss to your forehead.
"You cooked?" you asked, peeking over his shoulder to see the candlelit table he'd set up in the living room.
"I figured you deserved a celebration," he said with a shrug. "Winning cases and defending justice. Pretty badass, if you ask me."
You laughed, wrapping your arms around his neck. "I think you just wanted an excuse to show off your cooking skills."
"Maybe," he admitted with a smirk. "But mostly, I just wanted to make you smile."
And he did.
⸻
After dinner, the two of you curled up on the couch, your head resting on his chest as he absentmindedly traced circles on your back.
"Can I tell you something?" Drew murmured, breaking the comfortable silence.
"Of course," you replied, lifting your head to meet his gaze.
"I know our worlds are completely different," he began, his voice soft and sincere. "You're out here changing lives and making a difference, and I'm... well, I'm just playing pretend on a screen."
You shook your head, cutting him off. "Hey. What you do is incredible, Drew. You make people feel things. You tell stories that matter. Don't downplay that."
A small smile curved his lips as he brushed a strand of hair behind your ear. "I guess what I'm trying to say is... I'm proud of you. And I love being the guy who gets to come home to you at the end of the day."
Your heart swelled as you leaned in, pressing your lips to his. "I love being the girl who gets to come home to you too."
He grinned against your lips. "Good. Because I'm kind of obsessed with you."
You laughed, playfully rolling your eyes. "Well, you're stuck with me, Starkey."
"Wouldn't have it any other way," he whispered, pulling you closer.
As the night wore on, the two of you stayed tangled on the couch, talking about dreams, future plans, and everything in between.
You didn't need the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, and he didn't need the fast-paced legal world. All you needed was each other.
And that was more than enough.
