S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier
Somewhere over the Atlantic OceanAfter three years of working for S.H.I.E.L.D., Ellie expected to see nothing that surprised her. She had accepted the fact that there were gods and other aliens living on different planets. She just hadn't accepted the fact that in front of her was a man, who was alive and well after being asleep for nearly seventy years underneath ice in a HYDRA vessel. His heart rate was normal, blood pressure in check. His hair still perfect.
Captain Perfect-Hair
Ellie also hadn't accepted the fact that this man was Steve Rogers, the first Avenger.
The super-soldier was currently ( and still ) asleep on a cot in the helicarrier's lab, where she was currently monitoring his vital signs. She was surprised he was alive, but glad at the same time. His serum had kept him alive for all those years. It was like he was in cryosleep, although he didn't need tribbles to prove he could be saved.
Within minutes, the helicarrier touched base in New York. Ellie was next to the sleeping soldier every step of the way to the "hospital", which was more like their secret base a block away from Broadway street. Being the only qualified agent capable of testing the super-soldier's blood, Fury ordered for her to stay by his side until he woke up.
Ellie looked at his sleeping figure, his chest slowly rising and falling as he breathed. His blonde hair was still perfect, his skin porcelain and smooth. She had read whatever files she could access on him and and Agent Carter, who was remarkably still alive. Ellie had the honor to meet the ex-agent at a young age, who happened to be one of the most kind people she had ever met. She treated the woman as her grandmother. The elderly lady had often spoken to Ellie about her parents, and her love out of time. She remembered the last time they had spoken together, not only a day ago.
"Your parents were two peas in a pod. Now deary, I can't say much, but I can tell you that they both loved you very much ; especially your father, after Janet's death."
"Please, Peggy, I'd rather not talk about them right now." The elderly lady smiled sadly. The young agent in front of her could only despise her father.
"You will see in all time's due, Ellie." There was a moment of silence. "Why did you come this time, deary?" Peggy asked her.
"They found him." Ellie said. "They found him in the crashed HYDRA ship, frozen in the ice."
"Is he...?" The woman couldn't finish her question.
"Hopefully. They're waiting for me to meet them before taking any tests. They haven't moved out of the Artic yet." Peggy smiled, her eyes filling with tears. She chuckled sadly.
"He never got to take me dancing." The elderly woman laughed as tears spilled down her cheeks. Ellie had confused them at first as tears of sadness.
"You should have seen him, dear. He was so different, so kind, so courageous. He would give his life for his country and his team." Ellie smiled, remembering the times Peggy has told her about her and the Captain's budding romance. Not to mention all the fangirling rants she had to sit through as Phil told her about his vintage trading cards and other mint-condition merchandise he had collected over the years about Captain America.
