Chapter Twelve – Adopted:

“SHIT” I cursed as I rolled over; looking at the clock which told me it was quarter to eight. Great, I’m going to be late for school I thought as I jumped out of bed. I pulled on my uniform as quickly as possible. I ran a brush through my hair before applying my makeup and picking up my schoolbag. All of this was done within the space of twenty minutes, impressive.

“I’m gonna be late guys!” I called out as I ran down the stairs, into the kitchen where Liam and Niall were sitting.

“Can one of you take me to school? I overslept!” I asked them, pulling out a water bottle and placing it in my bag.

“Alright, hurry up though, it’s quarter past eight.” Liam stood up and picked up his car keys. I swore for about the tenth time as I ran around the house getting everything I needed. School really needs to start later.

Eventually I was ready and was in the car, the car ride was silent and Liam didn’t even attempt to make a conversation, I think he knew I was in a bad mood. We pulled up outside the gates of the school where there were only a few people around. Perfect, I’m late.

~

“Sorry I’m late miss,” I said, entering my maths class and walking over towards my desk at the back of the room. My teacher, Mrs King gave me a stern glance before nodding and marking me off on the register. “If you’re late again this week, a letter will be sent home” she warned me, before continuing on with her lesson.

Bored of equations, I looked around the classroom, realising that the seat Josie normally sat in, was empty. After checking Mrs King wasn’t looking, I pulled my phone out of my pocket and quickly texted Josie, asking her where she was.

A few minutes later, my phone vibrated, signalling Josie had replied to my text. I pulled my phone out and skimmed over the message Josie had sent me.

“Hey, I’m ill, sigh. I’ll be back tomorrow though! Don’t miss me too much ;)xx”

I let out a sigh before replying to her message. Just as I was about to hit the send button, I felt someone tap on my shoulder, making me jump. Quickly turning around, I saw my teacher standing there, giving me a disapproving look. Crap.

“Give me your phone please.” She said in a stern voice. I sighed before locking it and handing it to her. “Detention today at lunch” She said before walking off holding my phone, making me groan. Perfect.

--

“Okay, Sadie. You have detention for 30 minutes and then you’re free to go spend the rest of lunch how you please. You can collect your phone at the end of the day.” The teacher explained to me as I entered the classroom. I nodded, signed my name on the sheet and then sat down at a table. This is going to be a fun half an hour, not.

Eventually, after what felt like a decade, the half an hour was up and I was allowed to leave the overly hot classroom after receiving a slip to get my ‘parents’ to sign. The letter basically lets them know that I was in detention and why, fun.

I exited the room and headed towards the canteen – I had forgotten to pick up my lunch. Despite being half an hour into lunch, the queue was still quite long so I joined the line and stood behind two girls in the year below me, gossiping about something. A few minutes later they turned around and spoke to me,

“Hey, aren’t you that girl that lives with one direction?” One of them asked.

“That would be me.” I replied, a bit shocked that someone would come up and ask me that. I mean, a lot of people at school knew but they either didn’t care or just didn’t talk to me about it.
