My name is Kayla Poiroux. I love to write about fantasy romance and adventure. I have always loved greek mythology and knew I wanted to base my first book off of it. Of course, there is a sequel of Demis that will be in the works, so I hope you all look forward to that.
I started writing at a very young age. I remember sitting in class in the fifth grade, and instead of listening to the teacher, I was scribbling down short stories for my friends to read. A lot of the time I put them in as main characters. I convinced them to write these short stories with me. One of my fondest memories is writing those silly stories down and getting to read what my friends wrote.
When I reached the sixth grade, that was the first time I ever had someone recognize that I was half decent at writing. My teacher held a contest for who could create the best epic myth. The winner would get to drink a soda in class. This was a big deal because my reading teacher in the sixth grade was strongly against eating and drinking in her class. I decided I wanted to win, not necessarily for the soda (even though that was a plus), but simply because I wanted to have the best. I can't remember the details of the story, but I remember it being about a chipmunk and cellphones. What I do remember is rewriting it twenty times before I was satisfied with my final product. I ended up winning the contest, and my teacher gave me a can of diet Dr. Pepper to drink. I hated diet drinks, but I drank it anyway because it was my prize.
I got extremely into writing fanfictions and werewolf books when I got into middle school. I even had a few get a couple thousand reads on wattpad. I have since privated them because they were clearly written by a twelve year old, and it actually brings me great pain to try and read them.
My eighth grade year, I wrote a short story about the holocaust for another writing contest. I titled it "I am not an Animal." Again, I don't remember a ton about the story, but I remember the main character was a jewish girl that was tired of being treated like livestock. My story didn't place, but I did win an award for honorable mention. So, I was proud of myself nonetheless.
When I got into high school, I attempted to start many different book ideas, but nothing quite stuck. I scraped the books after a couple of chapters. Always getting stuck when I had to write down time. Demis is the book that really made an impact on me. The story has actually come a long way from how I originally planned it to go. At first, I wanted all the characters to meet by coincidence in a coffee shop, but that idea didn't make it to the final cut.
Now here we are, and I am officially publishing my first book. Thank you for reading. It honestly does mean the world to me. I hope you'll want to continue and follow me on this journey to become a strong and powerful author.
