"Mom, that is not happening

"Mom, that is not happening. Do you know how embarrassing that is going to be?" My mom thought it was a good idea if I went next door and gave muffins to our neighbours congratulating Mrs. Jacobs for her 39th birthday. There was no way in hell I would go next door to the Jacobs' house. I wasn't usually a overdramatic person, but my mom was clearly bringing out the worst in me. She knew I was not comfortable around people.

"I don't see the problem. The Jacobs' are very nice. Delivering muffins is harmless Ava" My mom backfired. I knew how this was going to turn out; my mom would convince me to go over there in the end.

"You know very well how my relationship with Ryder is.I honestly think it is cruel that you are forcing me to go to his house for something so small. I don't see why you can't take them yourself." I tried my best to think of a smart argue, but I knew it was all going down on me. I had to at least try and win this one battle.

"Ava, you aren't like this. I expect you to do the task I ask you to. It is going to take two minutes. This is very disappointing." my mom argued.

I pondered my mother's words in my head. I hated being the 'good child' in the family. It always meant living up to your parents expectations. I wish they expected less from me. "Give me the stupid muffin basket. You owe me big time, mom." I half-shouted as she gave me the basket full of the treats. I knew it; she always won her arguments.

The Jacobs' family could be considered loving and strong-bound. They had three kids; Ryder, Chloe, and the newest son, Mark. Ryder was the real reason I hated coming to their house. He was seventeen, sitting at the same age as me, with deep brown hair and mesmerizing blue eyes. We were best friends for a long point in our lives, until it ended - out of nowhere.

Once I rang the doorbell the memory hit me. The fight.

"Ava, why have you been so distant lately? I barely see you anymore..."

"It's nothing Ryder. But it makes sense that we never hang out anymore. You're always with your girlfriend."

"Are you actually serious right now? Rebecca is my girlfriend, what do you expect?" His voice was calm, but it had a hint of annoyance in it.

"Whatever just leave it Ryder. It is clearly stupid."

"No, no, explain. You expect me to leave my girlfriend so that I stay with you all the time? We are a couple Ava!"

"WE are best friends! I totally get that she is your girlfriend... but that doesn't mean you need to leave me all of a sudden." I was getting angrier. Did Ryder seriously think his relationship with Rebecca was stronger than our friendship?

"Rebecca is clearly better than you. She would not get mad over a petty thing like this. I guess ditching you these past few days have been good for me."
