For the next few days all I could think about was the road trip

For the next few days all I could think about was the road trip. We were set to finally go in a few days, yet I was not ready at all. I was not looking forward to it. My dad had also surprised me with a new pair of skis. He had insisted this trip was going to be amazing for me, and he had really gone all out. The beautifully made skis were a white fading into black. The poles matched, as well as the boots. The boots were carefully created for comfort and warmth as the inside was coated in the softest fur.

My mind was also filled with the conversation Ryder and I shared Saturday night. We hadn't talked in so long, so of course my mind was consumed with our 'debate'. Yet, no matter how many times the conversation replayed in my mind, I couldn't quite forget it. It might have also been because I couldn't quite grasp his concern. He had been so confident in Hunter's personality. So sure, that Hunter was not who I actually thought he was.

That's what worried me; discovering that Ryder was right all along.

"Hey Ava did you pack yet?" Lia asked, entering my room and pulling me out of my train of thoughts. I was lying on my bed, staring up at the ceiling, filling my mind with useless thought that had cycled over and over in the past few days. I couldn't believe that even though I was thinking of the trip all week, I had forgotten to pack. How was that even possible? I hadn't actually been thinking about the packing, but nonetheless...

Only you Ava, only you.

"I honestly do not understand you, Ava. How could you forget to pack?" Lia said, once again pulling me out of my thoughts.

"I have had other things on my mind lately, Lia. Packing is the least of my worries." I sighed getting up from my bed, and making my way to the closet. I needed to choose what I would take with me.

"Let me guess..." she said, smiling, "Ryder?"

I turned, my attention fully on my little sister. She knew I had spent all my time thinking about Ryder. I had no idea how she grasped that.

"You're an open book. Has anyone told you that?" She sat on my bed, "Chloe noticed it first on Saturday. After you were done cleaning the dishes with him, you guys seemed different. There was a clear tension between you two."

"Lia, you guys are in grade seven. How would you ever know that?"

"That's besides the point." Lia playfully rolled her eyes. "Anyways, throughout the night, you seemed lost in your thought. We clearly knew it was because of him. Ryder had the same look too, you know." I pondered how Ryder was feeling. He probably thought about it briefly, of course on the first night.
