After that exchange, silence filled the room and Velren just stared into the distance for the rest of the flight, not really eager to engage in any more chitchat.

It wasn't too long before the Helicarrier was making his descent in district eight. Suddenly Boggs stood up, "This has gotta be fast. In and out."

Everyone nodded their head at him to signal that they had understood. As soon as the helicarrier had touched the ground, the engine still running, they quickly made their way outside.

The dirt was flying through the air and Velren was shielding his eyes while he hurried after Boggs. They gathered in a circle and cowered on the ground, waiting for the helicarrier to take off.

"Move out!"

The group made their way towards a couple of people that stood over by some tall buildings. There was a dark-skinned woman at the front, a large gun in her hand.

She smiled before she approached them, but her eyes laid on Katniss and Velren with respect. Her voice cut through the silence, "You're alive then. We weren't sure."

"Katniss and Velren, Commander Paylor, District Eight," Boggs introduced the three formally to each other. "They've both been recovering, but insisted on coming out and seeing some of your wounded."

A painful look crossed Paylor's face for a moment as she probably thought about her people before she  nodded her head toward the direction of a rundown building." Well, we've got plenty of those."

Velren looked around the area, his mind clouded with the memory of his own district looking a similar way, even if District 8 was still struggling to breathe. At least they were breathing

When they walked through the entrance of the shelter , the terrible mell of death was the first thing Velren noticed. It was burning in his nose and he had to cover it with his hand.
