Long and difficult weeks had passed since the teenagers woke up from the deadly game of Mafia. Each of them pretended that everything was normal, but deep down they knew: their hearts beat in unison when they were near each other. The school was silent, even the most cheerful children became sullen and withdrawn.
The teachers did not understand why many of them began to study harder, but they liked it.
So the days passed, the weeks changed. On one of these quiet days, Soojin heard the doorbell. Tiredly approaching the entrance, she turned on the panel and looked at the screen. Her heart began to beat faster, and her hands nervously adjusted her long hair, which she had recently dyed dark. With a heavy sigh, she went to the door and opened it.
Kyung-Jun was standing at the threshold. There was a glint of anxiety in his eyes, as if he did not know what to do. They were both thinking the same thing. "Can we talk?" he asked in a quiet voice.
Soojin silently stepped aside, allowing him to enter. He took off his shoes and watched as she headed to the kitchen, turning on the kettle. There was a tension in the air that couldn't be ignored, "I'd like to talk to you about... us," Kyungjun said quietly, his voice shaking with excitement.
Soojin chuckled, leaning on the table. "Us? Do I need to remind you that my best friend died because of whoever made that video and your laughter?" Her voice was cold and sharp.
Kyungjoon ran a hand through his hair, sighing heavily. "I didn't make that video. What makes you think it was me? Just because I bullied Dabom doesn't mean I'm capable of doing something like that. I'm not a pervert!"
Soojin rolled her eyes, feeling her throat tighten at the mention of the quiet boy. "DaBom is a psychopath... I still can't forget that moment on the roof... Even though some of the memories have been erased, I still remember the important moments... It's driving me crazy." Her voice trembled, and she turned away to hide her vulnerability.
KyungJun stepped closer, his voice softening. "I understand how hard it is for you. But we need to figure this out together. I'm here to talk... We need this!"
Soojin looked into his eyes. She saw sincerity and a desire to talk in them. But fear and pain still held her captive. Shaking her head, the girl picked up the kettle that had already boiled, "I don't think this conversation will be successful... You should ask something else, not about... You understand!"
The boy sighed tiredly, watching her pour tea into two mugs. He wanted to talk about everything, but he couldn't, since she didn't want to, "Are you scared?" he asked, not being patient.
Soojin turned to him and said, "Yes. I'm scared. You remember what happened, right? I literally remember those games, and the fact that my friend killed herself not only in the game, but in real life..." nervously adjusting her hair, she shook her head, "Enough. It was in the game, and we didn't even know what we were doing..."
Kyung-Jun took a few confident steps forward, his heart pounding in his chest, as if trying to break out. He slowly extended his hand and gently placed it on Soojin's cheek. The girl froze, not knowing how to react to this unexpected gesture. A mix of surprise and confusion was read in her eyes, and her breathing became a little more intermittent.
Kyung-Jun, feeling his own nerves stretching, firmly grabbed her other hand. His palm was warm and confident, but at the same time Soojin felt a slight tremor — it was both pleasant and a little scary. They both knew that this moment could change everything.
He closed the distance between their faces, and Soojin could feel his breath, hot and nervous. Time seemed to stand still; everything around them was silent, and the air was filled with tension. She couldn't take her eyes off his eyes, full of tenderness and anxiety.
And so, unable to contain his emotions any longer, Kyung-jun leaned down and kissed her. It was a cautious, yet insistent kiss, full of tenderness and fear at the same time. Soojin felt her breath catch in her throat, her heart beating even faster, and her thoughts were in chaos.
This kiss was a real test for both of them, both vulnerable, but at the same time sincerely wanting this moment. She responded to his kiss, closing her eyes and allowing herself to immerse herself in this feeling. Nervous excitement was replaced by warmth, and fear — by hope.
