Chapter 29

Round 1

I sigh and slip my phone in my pocket.

Do I love Miley?

Suddenly there is a knock on my bedroom door.

"Carter, it's Nat. Can I come in?"

"Er, I'll be out in a second. I'm not quite ready."

"Okay, I'll be in the living room whenever your ready."

I take a couple of seconds to compose myself. Tonight will be fun.

I unlock my door and head into the living room. Natalie and Clyde are talking, so she doesn't seem me right away. I stare unconsciously at her while she talks. I can't get over how gorgeous she is. She didn't get dressed up for the evening like I thought she would; she's simply wearing a blue hoodie that has a white rib-cage with a little red heart under it, and blue torn skinny jeans.

Suddenly her eyes turn to me, she must have felt me staring. I feel my face turn red, but her's lights up even more than it already was.

"Ready to go?" She asks.

Clyde turns to me and winks.

"Yeah, let's go!" I blurt out.

We both hug and say goodbye to Clyde and he tells us not to have too much fun.

When we get into Natalie's car, we are suddenly awkward and shy. I have no idea what to say. Natalie apparently doesn't know what to say either, so she just turns up the radio and thats how we spent the trip.

When we get there the arcade is packed with people, but luckily none of them are childen. Everyone is our age or older.

"So Carter, you want food first? The pizza here is to die for."

"Well if it's to die for, we better get some." I laugh.

"Yay!" She jumps and gives a little clap. "I'll go order, you find us a table."

I nod and we split up.

I find a table near the entrance, but in the corner so we aren't as noticeable. I watch the people playing pool and various arcade games.

Natalie is back a few minutes later, and she's carrying a plastic number card with the number 15 on it, and two cups.

"I didn't know what to get you, I hope lemonade is okay."

I smile at her as she sits down. "It's perfect!" I take the drink from her and take a sip. "So Nat, why don't you tell me a bit about yourself?"

"Oh wouldn't you just love to know." She winks. "I think I'd like to hear the Miley and Carter story first."

I sigh. Of course she wants to know.

"Well, Clyde kind of introduced us." I say.

"So, he knew Miley?"

"Not really. He just kind of made me help him her ass from some paparazzi at a party one night, and she became interested me." I pause and play with the straw of my drink. "It's not a great adventure."

"So what's the problem with her?" She pauses. "I mean, why are you here with me right now? Clyde's told me bits and pieces, but he doesn't seem to know everything."

"I'm here because. . . Because Miley is like my first relationship and well. . . She's a little high maintenance I guess? I don't know, I feel like she's too attached to me, and it shouldn't be that way?"

Natalie doesn't say anything, she looks thoughtful, like she's trying to figure out how to reply to my unsure answer. Like, why would my first relationship be with a celebrity?

Before Natalie has a chance to figure out what to say, our pizza arrives. And just like that the deep questions are over. Some sort of spell has been broken by this pizza.

Natalie squeals with glee. "I just love pizza, it's my favorite food. I could eat it everyday." She jokes taking a slice.

I laugh and take a slice for myself. "You seem pretty serious about pizza."

"Yes, pizza is like," Natalie pauses "my life source. Good thing my dad owns a gym, or I'd be like 500 pounds." She laughs and bites her pizza makings a best-thing-since-heaven-face.

"Oh, my God Nat." I laugh and bite my pizza too, and I must make the same face because Natalie laughs.

"I told you this pizza is to die for."

We talk and joke around with each other while we eat the rest of the pizza. I learn that she is an only child and it's only her and her dad because her mom got cancer when she was little. She has lived in New York most of her life and hopes to get back there one day; she only came here because her needed her help at the gym. I also learn that she is bi-sexual like me. Clyde only thought she was a lesbian because she turned him down. We both thought that was hilarious, we laughed for a good five minutes about it.

I end up telling her about my parents and how my mom basically stopped loving me when I came out. I tell her about Bianca, and Clyde's secret relationship with her. I also tell her the struggles Clyde has gone through. She listens polity as I complain, and every now and then inserts a good joke and everything gets light again.

Natalie sighs and shakes herself out. "Well do you want to go play some arcade games?"

"Yes, but I really have to pee. I'll be right back."

Natalie laughs. "Okay, don't get lost or fall in, or anything like that."

"Ha ha, very funny." I say sarcastically getting up from the table.

I have to push past people to get to the bathroom, but luckily there is no line for the bathrooms.

After I've peed, I wash my hands and stare at my refection in the mirror. I could never out on a date like this with Miley. I could never do normal with her. Natalie on the other hand. . . Being with Natalie feels real.

I shake my head. I can only be a friend to Natalie right now. I won't cheat on Miley, not physically anyways.

My eyes focus on the mirror for a moment, and I see a piece of paper taped onto it. I dry my hands and read it. It says:

MILEY GOES ON MINI TOUR

She will be doing a signing and will perform here on August 15th, 2014 at Midnight.

I don't read the rest of it because that's tonight. I frantically pull out my phone.

That's like right now.

Suddenly the bathroom door opens, and standing before me is Miley.
