Chapter 7

Concert

The smell of bacon wakes me up. I quickly get up and grab an outfit before rushing to the bathroom. I get dressed, put on my makeup, and look in the mirror to see how I look. It's nothing special since I'm not going out today. I've put on some dark wash hydraulic jeans and a fitted black scoop neck with a lacy red tank top. I'm done in a record time of 10 minutes.

Clyde is slipping past the bathroom as I open the door. I glare and push past him. It's always a race to breakfast because Clyde is a pig and eats all the food before I can have any, if I don't get there first that is.

Today I am first, but only by a few seconds. Clyde tries to shove me out of the way, but I'm strong and I can't be budged. I smile and stick my tongue out at him. He grumbles something and crosses his arms and waits for me. He starts tapping his foot, so I go slower.

"I see you two are still childish about breakfast." Dad says.

I blush because I didn't even know he was in the kitchen.  I fill my plate with eggs, bacon, toast, and grapes, then go sit next to dad at the table. He has a cup of coffee, and so I steal a sip. It tastes awful and it must show on my face because my dad bursts out in laughter.

I glare and throw a grape at him.

Clyde comes and sits with us, his plate heaping with food. I roll my eyes. "Pig" I mutter.

Suddenly something hits my face. I look up and Clyde is smiling at his plate. Out of the corner of my eye, I see a grape rolling across the floor.

I smirk and grab a piece of bacon off my plate. I glance at dad to make sure he's not paying attention, which of course he's not; he's engrossed in his phone. So I reach out with my bacon and slap Clyde across the face. It's all I can do not to burst out in laughter. Instead I act like nothing happened and eat the bacon and play with the food on my plate. I try my best to keep a straight face, but I doubt it is working. I look at Clyde out of the corner of my eye and he has a face of pure shock. I can't help myself, I start laughing. I laugh so hard I fall out of my chair and spill my food everywhere. Luckily, none lands on me.

"What the heck Carter?" Dad asks, as he stands to look at me.

I can't get a word out because I'm laughing too hard, so I just point at Clyde.

Clyde shakes his head at me, but I can tell he's trying not to laugh. "She slapped me with bacon."

Dad chokes back a laugh. "Carter, get this cleaned this up."

I'm still laughing as I clean up my food. Clyde helps a little, but soon he's gone. A little while later, I get myself together and go to find Clyde to apologize.

He's on his level watching the television in the sitting room. I go sit next to him. I notice he's showered and changed into some nice clothes. He's watching Cartoon Network, and I smile. He glances at me, but says nothing. I sit and watch with him, until it's a commercial.

"Clyde." I say, turning to face him.

"Yeah?" He questions muting the T.V.

"I'm sorry for slapping you with bacon." I say, almost laughing, but I compose myself with a quiet breath.

"It's fine Cart, it was funny."
