Chapter 24
Getting Both Sides
By the time Miley is in my room, we have everything packed and in Clyde's truck; well, at least all the essentials. Clyde will come back tomorrow when dad's not home and get the rest.
I hug Miley tightly. "Hey. I missed you."
She hugs me back and kisses my cheek." Missed you too girl."
Clyde is sitting against my bedroom door. "Are we ready to go?" He asks.
Miley turns to him, but doesn't let go of me. "What's the plan?
"Well, Carter and I got everything packed up in my truck." Clyde replies. "So, I was hoping to follow you to where ever it is you live."
"That works for me. I have a guest house you will be staying in."
"You have a guest house?" I asked, surprised.
"Yeah. . ." Miley trails off.
I give her a confused look. Why didn't she tell me before? This wouldn't have to do with those kids that went missing, would it? I wonder.
Miley just smiles at me. "Well, let's go."
Clyde gets up and leads the way to his truck.
"Miley, where did you park your car?" I ask.
"At the end of the drive, in the trees."
"Do you want ride there?" Clyde asks.
"Sure."
We all pile into Clyde's truck and he drives Miley to her car.
"Miley, do you want me to go with you?" I ask as she gets out.
Miley shakes her head. "Stay with your brother." She gets in her car.
I look at Clyde. "Something is wrong with her." I state.
Clyde nods and starts to follow Miley.
"Clyde I got to tell you something."
"Go ahead."
"Alright, so you know how those cops came to dad's house?"
Clyde looks and me for a second and nods his head. "They were looking for some kids, weren't they?"
"Yeah, they were." I fiddle with my hands. "Well, the other day when I was with Miley we found a poster about them. They were found, thank goodness, but Miley got all weird about the poster and stuff, just like she did when I questioned her about her having a guest house."
"Do you think she has something to do with those kids?" Clyde asks.
I look out the window. "I don't know, but it seems like it."
When we get to Miley's, she takes us down a driveway I haven't been down before. I get excited to see what the guest house will look like.
When we pull up, I see a one story glass house with a pond stretching the length of it. It's even more beautiful than the actual house. I wonder why Miley doesn't live here, but then I see that it's really small. It has a deck that wraps halfway around it, and a stone wall blocks the whole house from view.
We get out and Miley leads us inside. We walk into a living room/kitchen. It looks like it takes up most of the house, because I see a tiny hallway to the left of me, just past the kitchen. There is a fireplace in the living room; it is almost floor to ceiling.
"Oh gosh, Miley this is beautiful!" I gush.
"Thanks." Miley turns to Clyde. "I have a maid that cleans it up, so if you don't want her to come clean for you, let me know. The fridge and the small pantry should be stocked with food for you."
