At the very back of the classroom, were two imposing men standing straight with their backs resting against the wall, seemingly completely out of place. They were dressed in perfectly ironed black suits, and their eyes were hidden behind dark oval sunglasses. They looked austere and intimidating like soldiers patiently awaiting their next order.
As bodyguards, the two men took their mission of protecting the young Ruka very seriously. They had only recently been hired by Mrs. Nogi, but they already cared very much for her endearing son; one could even say that after spending every hour of the day watching over him, they had become his number-one secret fans. And, as true secret fanboys, they were currently losing their mind at the sight of their young master blushing. Ugh... My heart ... Th-this is too KAWAII !! They screamed internally while rolling on the ground and holding their chests where their hearts were.
The two forgotten men had been internally moved to tears by the sight of Yuki and Ruka interacting. Their hands were itching to take a picture to immortalise this moment and show it to Ms. Nogi, who would undoubtedly fawn over the children's cuteness. The two men had never seen their lovely young master acting this way. Although Ruka's entire being always radiated loveliness, he rarely acted like other boys his age, having been forced to grow up too soon. Feeling saddened by this, they once again vowed to protect what little he had left of his childhood innocence, the sight of his blushing cheeks fuelling the flames of their devotion brighter than ever before.
The image of these two with burning flames in their eyes was rather peculiar and unknowingly, Yuki felt herself shivering under the weight of their fiery gazes. That's strange... she thought, why am I feeling cold?

"Oh, time sure flies when we're having fun, right mina-san?" chuckled Yukihira-sensei. She could see how hungry her young students were, so she quickly dismissed the class, not wanting to make them wait any longer. "Well, have a nice lunch and don't "forget" to eat your vegetables to grow tall and strong!" She said, her eyes set knowingly on a few children who immediately looked away, trying to act as innocently as possible.
Hearing her sensei's words reminded Yuki of how hungry she was. A tiny smile appeared on her face, and she almost started humming with happiness. She quickly closed her notebook, opened her pencil case, and shoved her pens inside as fast as possible. Then, she bent sideways to retrieve her bento from her bag and ceremoniously placed it on her desk. Just as she was about to open it, chopsticks in hand and drool almost dripping from the corner of her mouth, she was interrupted.
Frowning, Yuki turned to her right and sighed at the scene unfolding before her. Ruka had been captured. His desk was surrounded by a noisy crowd of their classmates bombarding him with dozens of questions at once. It was quite a sight: on one side were the ecstatic children, their voices overlapping in a chaotic symphony of curiosity; on the other, the poor boy looked completely overwhelmed, his eyes darting around nervously. He looks like a deer in headlights...
Yuki debated whether she should help him or not. On her first day of school six months ago, she had sworn not to get involved with any of her classmates for fear of getting attached. But watching Ruka's expression grow more strained with each passing second was truly pitiful. She knew how persistent the children were and how scary all this attention could be. She sighed again at the idea of what she was about to do and got up from her seat, her chair scraping loudly against the wooden floor.
"Nogi-san is eating with me," She announced bluntly, her tone leaving no place for discussion.
As soon as they heard her words, the chattering children immediately quieted down, dumbfounded by her intervention. They were at a complete loss for words; Yuki always kept her distance and had never addressed them directly like this before. Their curious eyes flicked between the young girl and Ruka, the silence growing heavier with each passing second. A few children recovered from the shock and turned to face her, wanting to say something, but upon meeting her eyes, they immediately forgot what they were about to say. She looked too intimidating, and they couldn't resist her. Slowly, they left one by one, looking pitiful with their tails tucked between their legs. A few of them glanced at Ruka with envy; they couldn't help it, especially after every one of their attempt at befriending her had been immediately shot down.
The two forgotten bodyguards were left stunned by what had just taken place. They had been moments away from intervening to rescue their cute young master, but Yuki had been faster. It was fascinating seeing such a small girl effectively ordering around a group of rowdy kids. The two men were grateful; had they intervened, it might have negatively affected the young boy's school life and his chances of making friends.
"Arigato..." Ruka said, breathing a deep sigh of relief. He could feel his cheeks heating up as he glanced at Yuki from his seat. She had saved him from their nosy classmates, like a knight in shining armour... Then, he remembered her words, his heart skipped a beat and a cute smile formed on his face at the idea of spending time together.
The sight of a much more relaxed Ruka comforted Yuki in her decision, and her lips bent upwards, happy that she had helped him. If we stay here, the other kids won't leave us in peace... They needed a place away from prying eyes, and she knew just the right spot.
"Ne, do you have your bento?" Yuki asked as she held hers. Realising she was speaking to him, Ruka quickly nodded "yes" and rummaged in his bag for his lunch. "Follow me," she said once she saw the box in his hands.
Together, along with Ruka's bodyguards, they left the classroom. The sounds of conversations faded away as they silently climbed the stairs to the top floor, their footsteps echoing in a rhythmic pattern. When they reached a lone door at the end of the stairway, Yuki pushed it open. The school's rooftop offered a breathtaking view of the surrounding forest and the distant mountains under the clear blue sky. A gentle breeze ruffled their hair as they stepped over the door's threshold. The air felt fresher up here, carrying the faint scent of pine from the forest below, and the sunlight bathed the rooftop in a warm, golden glow.
