I stare at the cure in my hands.
What should I do? What am I thinking? Can I really betray my family like this?
I stand up and I sit down on my bed. Suddenly Jade walks in. "Farah- what is that?" My heart starts pounding faster and faster. "I-It's a... A sample for Meredith..."
"A sample my ass. Give it to me."
"No."
"Farah, now."
"No!" She flashes toward me and I flash across the room. "You've never doubted me before, Jade! Don't doubt me now."
"What is that, Farah? And do not lie to me."
"Promise me. Promise you won't tell anyone. Not even Ricky."
"I'll decide that after you tell me."
"If you don't promise me I won't tell you. That's how this works."
"We don't keep secrets from each other, Farah."
"Sometimes secrets are needed to survive, Jade."
"Farah, TELL ME!" She yells. I shake my head.
"This is the only way. It's the only way I can be free. When I won't get kidnapped! When I won't have to deal with my brother being sacrificed!"
"What?" She comes toward me. "It's a cure, isn't it? Who made it for you?"
"A friend," I snap. She nods. "Alex, right? The warlock?" I grit my teeth. "You know what, Jade? Ricky is back! So is my mother! Just stop pretending to care about me!" I grab my jacket and shoes then I push past her.
"Farah! Farah!" I slam the door as I leave the house.
Elena's POV
I walk into the kitchen and I'm met by the uneasy tension I get whenever I walk into a room with Damon.
It's been 2 weeks since the falling out.
But I've been patient.
I grab my prenatal vitamins and I reach for the refrigerator door handle. He does at the same time, and our hands touch. I yank mine away reluctantly. I grab the water filter and I pour myself a glass of water. I take the vitamins then I grab my purse. "Where are you going?" He murmurs. "Nowhere." I head out the door and I get into the car and I head to the hospital. When I get there, Meredith smiles at me. "Hey. Where's... Damon?"
"I didn't think he'd want to come."
"You thought wrong." I look behind me and he walks toward us. I dart my eyes toward the ground and we head in the room. I lift my shirt up, then she spreads the gel on my stomach. I look at the screen, and Caleb appears, my little Salvatore son. I smile and Meredith does too. "He's healthy and strong." She prints out the ultrasound and I clean off my stomach. We head outside. "You were going to go alone?"
"Don't start."
"This is what I'm talking about, Elena! Lying to me!"
"I have been waiting for the last FREAKING two weeks! I gave you time. Every time I walked into a room with you, I felt like I was going to die! I get it, Damon, I lied to you. But I've apologized, and I've been patient. So for now," I inhale and exhale, "I'm done." His face softens and he shakes his head.
"No-"
"Damon, just don't. Please... Don't." I head to my car and I drive home.
Evie's POV
I walk into my kitchen.
Christian and I moved in about 2 weeks ago, and it's amazing not having drama surround us.
I get a call from my Dad.
"Hello?"
"Hi."
"Hey, Daddy what's going on?"
"Well... It appears that as of now, your Mom and I are no longer together."
"What? How the hell could that ever happen?"
"Secrets." He sighs. "I'm going to be out of town for a couple weeks. Just to let your Mom breathe... I'll be back for the wedding."
"Okay. I'm sorry Daddy."
"It's okay... It's not your fault." He hangs up and I do too. Christian looks at me. "What's wrong?"
"My parents just broke up."
"Are they getting a divorce?"
"No, he just said as of now, they aren't together." He pulls me into his side and kisses my forehead.
Damon's POV
I grab my bag off the bed and I head downstairs. Elena sits on the couch with her arms crossed over her chest. I sit down next to her.
"Where are you going to be staying?" She asks.
"Probably in my old place in New York." She nods and bites her lip. "I wish it didn't have to be this way."
"Why does it? What happened to us?"
"Secrets. As much as you hate mine, you know I hate yours. And the waiting... Damon we fight so much now. I want this to work so badly, I want us to be the way we were before the sacrifice, but you've changed, Damon."
"I haven't changed, Elena."
"You have. Evie and I have both noticed it. You're darker. I get it, I bet it was hard as hell having me gone, but I'm back now. The only thing that scares me more than you do is the question of how you acted around our son. Sam needed you, Damon. Where were you? Because that boy in there is darker too."
"I couldn't handle it, Elena." I whisper. "I know that. I get it. I've lost my parents, my Aunt, my brother, granted he did come back and so did I, Damon. I'm back. And I think that isn't good enough for you."
"That's everything-"
"You talk a big game, Damon, but you want more."
"How could I ever get more than what you give me?"
"That's something you have to ask for yourself. Ask what it is you want from me. Then we can talk about it when you come back for the wedding." She stands and I do too. "Goodbye Damon." I come toward her and I press a kiss gently to her lips. "Goodbye Elena." I grab my bag and I walk out the door, tears brimming in my eyes.
Elena's POV
I sink down on the couch and I begin crying.
Crying for my relationship, which is out the window right now.
Crying because my daughter is getting married.
And crying because I know that tonight, the bed will feel cold and empty without him.
