Crutchie's POV

I just finished a grueling day of selling papes and am on my way back to the newsboys lodge, ready to get some sleep. I've always hated coming back from my post because there is a small flight of 10 stairs with no rail or wall to hold onto that I have to go up to get back.

This particular night it was a bit harder to get up them because I was so tired. I got 6 stairs up and heard some voices off in the distance from the top of the stairs.

"Would you guys mind giving a crip a hand up these stairs?"

Their conversation seemed to drop instantly. Two shadows of people came over to the top of the stairs. The Delancy brothers.

I quickly regretted asking for help.

"How ya doin ya lousy crip?" Oscar smirked. Morris was giving me a death stare.

"Look I don't want any trouble, I just want up the stairs. But I think I can get it from here," I said trembling in fear. It was late at night and I was alone on a set of stairs with the Delancy's staring down at me.

"See," Oscar started, "You dont want any trouble, and neither do I, but I'm pretty sure my brother Morris here would love to find some trouble, now wouldn't you."

"Yeah, I sure would," he said as he shoved me full force backwards down the stairs. I put my arms out behind me to catch myself, but that was a horrible mistake.

I scream as I hit the ground. I hear two loud snaps and an intense pain shoots up my right arm. I lay on the ground, writhing in pain as I see the Delancys running away.

I turn to look at my arm. Instead of bending in one spot like usual at the elbow, it now had a bend between my elbow and wrist.

I try to fight the pain and stay conscious so I can get back home. I look around for my crutch only to see that it has been snapped in two pieces and is useless.

I try to stand without the crutch but quickly realize that is not an option. I fall right over onto by arm and let out a wail that is so high pitched I wasn't sure if it was me or a girl screaming. I lay there on the floor, bleeding, screaming out for the newsboys. Then everything goes black.
