Chapter 1: Betrayal
(This chapter includes a touchy subject. Read with caution.)
My friend Ivy drove over to my house the next morning. I had told her what happened to Avia over text and she said we needed to meet up.
She knocked on my door at about half eleven, and I was still in my pyjamas. But Ivy didn't care. I told her the full story about Avia and the funeral and even Scott. Ivy said she didn't know much about Scott so I told her more about that.
"On the night before my wedding, Scott was pounding this other girl. And that morning he was so drunk and hangover he didn't even show up for the wedding. I waited 3 hours for him to show up. I eventually tracked him down at his apartment, in bed with another girl telling her that he loved her and that she was the one. He tried to make it up to me, but seriously, fuck Scott."
Ivy drew back a breath. She looked so sorrowful.
"Oh my god, Cassy babe. I'm so sorry."
I sighed.
"The girl he was sleeping with, kind of looks like you actually."
"But Cass, you know I'd never do that to you right?" She was panicking for some reason.
"Well we didn't become friends till after that. And anyway, that girl had a big rose tattoo up her arm."
Ivy glanced at her arm and shivered. I pulled up her top sleeve. There was a big rose sitting on her arm.
Tears came rolling down her cheeks.
"...Ivy?"
I dropped my cup of coffee. It couldn't be, could it?
She gulped and stood up putting her cup on the table.
"I'm so sorry, Cassy."
I started bawling and shouting at her.
"To think I thought I'd finally found a friend I could trust! Why? Why did you do it Ivy?"
She turned away from me.
"We were both drunk and stupid, Cassy. We met up in a bar. He was having a stag due, and his mates had just left. I remember you showing him to me at work but we weren't very good friends then, and I recognised him. He thought I was pretty so he came up to me. We started talking and.. It sort of just happened. We were both drunk and out of our minds. Scott wanted to make our one night stand into something else, but you and I were becoming better friends so I said no. He said to cover up so it didn't look like me, I should become friends with you so I'd look innocent. I'm so sorry Cassy, I'm a disgusting human being."
I shook my head in denial.
"Avia's dead because of you!" I screamed.
She turned back around and blinked a few times.
"What? I didn't kill Avia!"
"Then why did she die?" I said grabbing her arm and shaking it. I started crying even more.
"Why! Why why why why did she die?"
"Look I don't know okay! All I know is that Scott knows something about it. I knew how much Aiva meant to you, so I asked him and he said he couldn't tell me. The only thing he told me was Aiva was going to be put in a mental institution. I don't know why or how but that's all I got out of him."
I looked at her. She had great sorrow in her eyes. I stopped grabbing her arm.
"Thanks." I said calmly. Then I punched her in the face so hard she fell to the floor.
"That's what you get for sleeping with my ex you drunk whore. Now get the fuck out of my house."
She stood up holding her cheek, and walked quietly out the room.
