Chapter 2: Teaming up
I looked into it. Why was Avia going to a mental home? The only person who knew was Scott. Of course.
I had to ring him. I had to. Or I could text him. No, let's ring him fuck it. I'll be brave about this.
I picked up the phone and dialled his number. I still remember it. Huh.
It ringed for a while and then I got-
"Omg! Omg Cassy hi! Hi! How are you?"
"I'm fine, Scott. Listen, I heard from, um Ivy that Avia was going into a mental home? She got it from you, and because I'm trying to figure out why she... Did what she did, I need to get some more information from you."
"Right. Right um okay, what do you want to know?"
"Do you know why Avia was going to a mental home? Any signs she was going insane, depressed maybe?"
"Her mothers boyfriend and I are good mates. John. Good lad he is. He told me she used to shriek from her bedroom every night at the same time exactly, 3am. She'd always say the same thing, "LEAVE ME ALONE VERA!" It had been going on for months, since April. Suddenly scratches appeared on her arm and and someone wrote in big letters on Avia's wall 'it's time'. Avia said it wasn't her but it could of been. Still, things were getting worse but John cut me off from there. He said they needed to be with Avia for a while, and then a few days after he sent me a text saying they where looking for suitable mental homes."
I shook all over.
"Oh my god... Why didn't my own sister tell me this was happening!?! Cherry doesn't care about me and she never will. But poor Aiva... So she was insane. Bless her."
Scott paused.
"I don't think so though. They way John sounded... She wasn't insane. Hey listen let me come over and we can talk about it then in person."
Scott coming over? He hadn't been over since two days before my wedding. My failed wedding.
"Oh Scott, I er, I don't know about that."
"Come on Cass. I'm not asking for chances or anything more from you. Just for us to work together or help Cherry and John find out what happened to Avia. And for you, of course."
I sighed. I can't believe I let up to this lie. This big fat lie.
"Alright fine. Be here in fifteen minutes."
And I ended the call.

He came to my house earlier than he should of. I had got dressed and ready but my flat was still a mess. Hopefully he wouldn't care.
He knocked on my door. I opened it as he smiled. He was wearing casual clothes but he defiantly made an effort. I was just wearing jeans and a vest top.
"Hi Cass." His face lit up.
"Um, hey. Come in."
He awkwardly shuffled his way into my home and looked around.
"Ah I remember this place."
I sighed. He was already being a dick.
"Yeah. Well anyway, I've been looking into local mental homes around town. Do you think she was going to one of them?"
I walked into the living room and Scott followed. We both sat down on the sofa.
"Possibly." Scott said.
"And who is this, Vera girl she was shrieking at? One of her friends maybe? A bully?"
I pondered at all the possibilities.
Suddenly John text Scott which made his phone buzz.
"That's it! Call John! We could find out some more information, and-"
"Cass, John's probably not in the right state of mind..."
"Oh, your... Probably right. Never mind."
He paused to look at his phone. Then sighed and started to dial John's number.
"Hi John. Yeah it's me, look I know your in a bad place right now but I'd really like to know so more information about Aiva... Okay. Okay. Alright mate. Catch you later."
He put the phone down and sighed once again.
"He said he'll text me some stuff over in the next week, but Cherry's watching him like a hawk. She doesn't really want to give out any 'personal' information but John's happy to help."
"That's good. But Cherry was always like that. Growing up and all. I got use to it."
"What's the deal with Cherry anyway? Always so overprotective, she kind of weird."
I giggled.
"Hey this is my sister you are talking about here! And why did she tell you and not me?"
"We got kind of, close when you and I were dating. Not in a lovey way even though I did think she used to fancy me. But anyway, I was round her's maybe once when you dragged me round to those awful Sunday dinners. She sat me down while you lot where out in the garden and she told me all about Avia."
"I still can't believe she wouldn't want to tell her own sister?"
"Maybe she doesn't trust you."
I gave a sarcastic grin.
"Thanks for that..." Then I started laughing. I couldn't help myself.
Then Scott started laughing.  It was this continues circle of laughter. I hated it but it was kind of fun.
"I miss this." He put his hand on my hand. "I miss us."
I sighed, and quickly got up.
"Yeah well, maybe if you hadn't of cheated on me we would of been fine." I angrily walked out of the living room and into the kitchen. Scott chased after me.
"Cass, really? This again? We were having a good laugh and now look at us. Arguing again. Like you always used to start them."
He had the cheek to say that to me? What a prick. I calmly said,
"You came here... To talk about Avia. Share what you know with me. Not to have a catch up."
He looked at me. His face cold and stoney.
"Always your way, isn't it Cass."
"My way? What makes you have enough cheek to say that to me?!?"
"Shut up, Castelle."
"Don't tell me to shut up in my own house! Get out Scott, GET OUT!"
"I'm glad to you slut."
"I'm the slut? I wasn't the one mucking around on my wedding night was I?"
"I knew I shouldn't of offered to come over."
And he walked out without saying another word. He slammed the door so hard the floor shook. After I heard his car drive off into the distant, I leaped onto my bed and cried myself to sleep.
