Jake's P.O.V.
I set the half-finished book down and go over to the window. I see a house in the distance. At best guess five miles away, but I'm really bad at judging distance.
If I could get out of here, I could possibly get there. I'd have a better chance if it wasn't so cold with snow on the ground, plus it's still snowing. Let's forget to mention that the windows are nailed shut, oh yeah, I have crazy kidnappers, or someone who really wants me. Never mind, that still counts as crazy.
I hear the door open and I turn around. "What are you doing?" the guy asks.
"Um... looking out the window." I say walking away from it.
"Get away from there."
I sit down on the bed and he hands me a plate of food. He leaves and then comes back with a radio. "Something so you don't go crazy." He says plugging it in and then he leaves, locking the door behind him.
I get up and turn it on to some talk show. Hopefully it'll tell me the date. If I'm right tomorrow is Jessica's and mine's birthday. I listen while I eat, but they don't say the date. Even if they did it wouldn't change where I am, or how I'm going to be spending my birthday.
Ashton's P.O.V.
Revenge, that's what he wants. "Tomorrow is the twins' birthday. One birthday that they won't be spending at home, but don't worry you'll still get to see them. I suggest that you stay near your computer tomorrow." Mom looks at Dad like she's lost all hope. "Now how can you get them back? Well you can start by giving a million dollars each. So two million total. If I get even one penny less, I'll take the pleasure of torturing one of your children in front of the other and you'd- well I wonder how much your daughter would scream if I-"
"Why do you want revenge?" I ask cutting him off.
"Are you Ashton or Cole? Never mind it doesn't matter, but I'm not ready to reveal why I want revenge just yet, but I must say I like you. You get right to the point, not like your parents who are going to do everything I say. Now I was only going to give you one day get the money, but now you have two. Remember about tomorrow." He says, and then the screen goes black.
"What the hell Ashton?" Dad yells, "You could have gotten them killed!"
"But I didn't, I just got you an extra day to get the money.
"What you did was reckless." Mr. Noland tells me, "but he did seem to like you. That's a good thing."
"What do we do now?" Mom asks.
"We wait until tomorrow; it would be unwise to do anything now." Mr. Noland says.
"Anything except getting the money." I counter, glaring at my dad. He glares back.
"Ashton," Mom says gently, "Why don't you go call Ivy and explain you can't go over tomorrow."
"Why doesn't he get the money?" I ask.
"It's late Ash." Cole tells me, "Wouldn't the banks be closed?"
"Yeah, they would." I say. "So that means, first thing tomorrow, right?"
"Tomorrow we have to stay here for when they call." Dad says.
"So you're going to put off to the last minute?" I ask, getting mad.
"If you want to raise your voice and have attitude, then you can go to your room." Dad says.
"He has a point." Cole says backing me up.
