"We're going to get them." Dad says. "Starting with Jake."
"We'll leave tomorrow morning." Mr. Noland says.
"Andria, where is Jaxson?" Dad asks.
"He's visiting Adam." Mom says.
Adam was found just barely alive. He's lucky that he's alive at all. He was taken to same hospital that Ivy was at. Jaxson went to visit him because they've been friends since childhood.
"Why are you taking Jaxson?" Mom asks.
"Jessica might react better to him, then to me." Dad explains.
"So we'll be alone?" Mom asks.
"No I hired another man, Luke, he's another friend of Jaxson's."
"Ashton, will you go call Jaxson and ask him to come right back?"
"Yes father." I say.
After I call Jaxson I start to head back to the other room when I hear yelling.
"He is not going with you!" Mom yells.
"He'll be on the plane the whole time."
"No, he's sixteen, he should stay home with Cole and me."
"Andria, he's coming with me."
"Dave, no, he's not going."
"He's coming and that's the end of it."
"What's going on?" I ask.
"You're coming with me to Canada." Dad says.
Jessica's P.O.V.
When I wake up I feel something warm next to me, and then realize it's the younger guy. That's when I back up to the wall. "Relax kitten." He says stretching.
"Do you go to school?" I ask out of nowhere.
"You think they let me go to school? They're afraid I'd run and rat them out." He tells me.
"What?" I ask.
"Well..." he says trailing off for a few seconds. "As you know I'm only sixteen, but they took me when I was twelve. I was in the same place you are now, they wanted money from my parents."
He shifts around and I move a bit closer. "Well my parents were going to pay it. They were driving up to the spot they were told to drop the money off, when they were hit by another car. They flipped and were instantly killed; well that's what I was told anyway. The money was never delivered so they called my parents prepared to kill me. I definitely wasn't ready to die, I was only twelve."
"You've been here for nearly five years. Didn't you try to escape?"
"I use to. The last time was probably three years ago. After that I stopped. They think that they have me broken, but they haven't."
"Broke you?"
"Trust me kitten, you don't want to know. Either way, they figured out that I'm not. At lunch, when you and your brother came out and saw that, that guy was shot. Well... they were aiming for me. I tried to run." He pauses again. "You're that reason that I haven't been punished yet. He's forgotten about what happened."
"Adam..." I whisper.
"Yeah, him. In a way I feel that it's my fault he got shot."
"Oh... Wait, why didn't they kill you?"
"Well they called my parents, and my older brother answered. He told us what happened. They pulled me out of his view, shot at the floor and made me stay quiet. He thought I was dead. After they ended the call they told me I was going to be of use to them."
"What happened to your brother? I mean how come he didn't pay to get you out, or at least before they "killed" you?" I ask.
"He did try, but they said no."
"Why don't you try to contact, or try to get back to him?"
"I-I can't. They- they killed him. He knew what was going on. They called him a loose end. They went and took a video of when they sh- shot him, and they- they made me watch it." He takes a deep breath and sighs. "Even if I wanted to escape, I'd have nowhere to go. You're lucky Kitten, you have a place to go.
Suddenly the door opens and the older guy walks in. "What the hell Ryder, I've been calling you down for supper, the past five minutes. Let's go."
I look at the younger guy- Ryder, "Yeah, we'll be down in a minute."
"So your name is Ryder?" I ask after the older guy leaves.
"Yeah, my brother use to call me Ry- Ry." He says with a sigh. "Come on, we should go before we get in any more trouble."
As I eat, the older guy takes Ryder into another room, to talk to him. I think about what would happen if my parents didn't pay. I'd probably be killed. I think that I'd rather die than stay here. I'm ready to go home and be with my family.
"Come on Kitten." Ryder says walking into the kitchen. I get up and follow him.
Nothing is really done that night. I don't talk to Ryder either since he seems really deep in thought. He eventually turns off the light and I drift to sleep, but I don't stay asleep for very long.
"Come on Kitten, Kitten. Kitten wake up." He whispers shaking me awake.
"What-"
"Shh..."
"What are you doing?" I ask whispering.
"We," he tells me, "are leaving."
"What?"
"You heard me, now let's go." He says pulling me out of bed. "And here." He says, handing me a sweatshirt, socks, and my shoes.
"Are we really leaving?" I ask. "Couldn't we get caught?"
"If you stay quiet we might get out."
We quietly sneak downstairs and into the kitchen. "Wait." I whisper.
"What, we don't have time."
"My ankle?" I point out.
"Oh yeah." He says pulling out a key, and taking it off of my ankle.
We go outside and get in the truck. He starts in and glances back at the house. He drives away. He's leaving his, well, place that he's lived for the past five years, and is going to the word, where he has no one.
This is it. I'm going home. I'm going to be free again. You don't realize how much freedom you have, until it's taken away from you. And that is a terrible thing to go through.
"You okay Kitten." He asks looking over at me.
"Yeah, I'm just really ready to go home." I say.
"Let's just hope we make it." He mutters.
About half an hour later we see headlights behind us. "Shit." Ryder mutters. "The only other person that would be on this road would be him."
"He found us, but how did he even know we were gone?" I ask.
"I don't know, he probably went to check on us, considering how long it took him to catch up."
"He's catching up." I say looking behind us.
"Damn truck." He says trying to speed up.
The older guy passes us, confusing me for a minute before he turns sideways forcing Ryder to either stop or crash. He chooses stopping over crashing.
The older guy gets out of his truck and rips open my door pulling me out slamming the gun into the side of my head, making me gasp in pain.
