I find myself

We were falling. Straight for the ground three stories below us! I felt a tugging sensation on my arm and looked down it was the boy he was telling me to summon the air.

“How?” I yelled back.

“Feel weightless and imagine flying, not falling”

I imagined the sensation of flying the wind blowing my hair in a flurry of color, and the feeling of weightlessness that is so intoxicating. “ Open your eyes, Ember. Open them!” I did as he said and was met with the most spectacular view.

There were leaves below us and clouds above us; everything below was tiny and minuscule. The people looked like ants and I was holding the hand of the second most amazing boy there was.

Speaking of which I don’t even know him, so why am I doing this? “ Who are you?” I asked, he was too intoxicated to hear me. I shook my arm and asked again “Who are you?!”  He heard me this time I knew it, but he still refused to answer. I just shook my head and aimed for the grassy area below.

Touching down on not so flat not really ground, I felt like I lost my freedom. He jumped down and let go of my hand coming up one knee down and half standing. My landing however wasn’t so graceful.

I plummeted headfirst into the tree and got stuck in the branches. “Uh… help!”

He found me and was smirking the whole time while getting me down. “No worries the landing is the hardest part from what I heard”.

He heard about people flying, they fell and failed at landing. That is very hard to believe.

I got up and wiped myself off and was rewarded with a smirk and him looking at my butt. “Is my ass entertaining to you or something?”

“’No, no you just have my boot print straight on your butt, and actually yes it is very entertaining”’ the whole time saying that he just had a smile on his face and I could tell he was trying not to laugh.

“Ok so now we have that entertaining view can you please; tell me who you are! I just met you and in that span you have saved my best friend from death by doing something with the water in her throat. You pushed me from my classmates and Cliff. Then after flying around town you are trying to tell me that this happens to other people. LIKE OTHER PEOPLE CAN FLY! WHO ARE YOU AND WHY DO YOU WANT ME? I WANT ANSWERS NOW! Who am I?”’ that last comment had me bursting into tears and throwing myself into his arms.

His body tenses, but he places a hand on my back rubbing it. I cry into his shoulder letting go of all I've been holding in. When I finish he just looks at me humorously and asks, “Are you done? If you are done then let me answer your questions.

I am George, a water bender. That was how I was able to save your friend from immediate death. I pushed you from your classmates because they were trying to kill you, and considering how you looked at the leader they would have if I didn’t intervene.

I know that there were rough landings because one of my friends is an air bender.

I already told you that I am George and I am one of the last benders alive. There is a small number left in this world and it is falling fast. The reason that I want you alive is because you are the Savior, and you are the only one who will be able to save our people.”’ He looked at me trying to see if I was processing this.

There were very few facts that stood out to me. One in particular, “YOU ARE TRYING TO TELL ME THAT CLIFF IS TRYING TO KILL ME!”

I imagined Cliff with his chiseled jaw structure, high cheekbones, spliced left eyebrow, dimple in his right cheek, soft brown hair falling into his dark eyes, and his scuffed hiking boots matched with his blue jean jacket.

Looking at my companion I unconsciously compared the two.

My companion has the same jaw structure, high cheekbones, and a spliced right eyebrow, shorts, T-shirt, beach blond hair falling into aqua blue eyes, and a dimple in his left cheek.

         They were polar opposites.

I was pulled out of my fantasy by his velvet voice (it is actually pretty sexy). Compared to Cliff’s husky rough way of talking though it has no competition.

He cleared his throat and said one more thing that made my heart drop “That boy is an earthbender, and right now his sole purpose is to turn you to His side in any matter he can; whether it be pain or love.

One thing's for sure if he can’t lure you to His side this boy WILL KILL you! There is no regret and no mercy. Ms. Live will train him so he will be strong enough to crush you like a bug. She will not stop until you are on His side or dead. Either or will work for her”

This was impossible to listen to. Soft, nice, and sweet Cliff is going to be trained to kill, and to kill me. “Anything else I’m missing”

It took him awhile to answer but then he said, “Yeah Ms. Live she goes by Warden”

“ Oh great; this is just great” I’m so dead.
