*****Addie's POV*****
Avery and I walk back to the common room after Herbology and we collapse onto our beds. "Ugh. I can't believe we have to write a essay on the property Mandrakes," Avery complains.
"I know right!?!?!?!? We aren't even studying mandrakes," Jessica responds.
"Whoa. Where did you come from?"
"Oh. Sorry. I got in here just now, basically."
"It's fine," I respond. "Anyways, I don't know. I'm going to write two."
"What are you doing that for?" Jess and Avery respond at the same time.
"I'm pretty sure that when we do study them Professor Sprout will probably ask for another one." I shrug.
"True, maybe I guess, but I don't want to write two. I'll write another one next year, if Professor Sprout asks for one," Avery responds. "I'm not going to do more work if I don't have to."
"Okay."
"Can we go to dinner? I'm starving."
"Sure," Jess says with a laugh.
We all walk to the great hall and sit at the Slytherin table. I don't actually end up eating that much, considering how hungry I was in the common room. "I thought you were hungry Addie."
"I thought I was too," I respond to Avery. I sigh.
"Okay. What's bothering you?"
"Nothing," I lie. I don't want her to know that I'm worried about Melissa. She isn't in the great hall and I don't remember seeing her in any of our classes after Herbology.
"Okay." They shrug. I guess they really don't care about her. Or they just don't notice that she's missing. They probably don't know.
I eat more and we head back down the the dungeons."Hey," Avery says suddenly. "Where's Melissa? Now that I think about it I haven't seen her in any of the classes after Herbology." Of course Avery notices now.
"Ya. I was wondering about that too," I respond. "I don't know where she is now, or where she's been, but I'm getting really worried about her."
Jessica stops walking just as we round a corner. "You're worried about Melissa. I don't think anyone has ever said that before."
"It's just that I don't want her to get hurt. That's all. Somehow I always feel like it's my fault if someone gets hurt and I can't stand being around people who are getting hurt. Like, I don't care if I get hurt, if it means that they wont. Do you know what I mean?"
Jess and Avery look at each other and say, "No," at the same time.
I sigh. "Okay. Umm. Have you ever seen a woman get hurt?" They shake their heads. "Okay. Have you ever heard a woman when she's giving birth?" They nod their heads. "Well that's exactly it. When women give birth, umm, well, let's just say that it hurts ... a lot."
"Okay," Jess says slowly.
"Anyways, I feel like I could do stuff that could stop it from hurting. Now do you get what I'm saying?" They shake their heads.
"Okay. Now I understand why the Sorting Hat didn't put you guys into Ravenclaw, no offense."
"None taken," they say with a smile.
"Okay. How do I put this simpler? Okay. I feel like it's my fault when someone gets hurt and I feel bad that I wasn't there to stop it from happening I guess," I try to explain. "Now do you get it?"
"Ya. But what does that have anything to do with Melissa?" Jess asks.
"Well, if she gets hurt, then I'll feel like it's my fault because I wasn't there to stop it from happening."
