The trail ride

         Chapter 3

                  The Trail Ride

    

      About a half an hour after unloading the horses we all ate dinner and then went to the barn to get all tacked up, I had groomed the horses earlier so it didn’t take very long to get ready but heres the conversation for the ten minutes that we were in the barn.

     “Why do we even have to go riding? It’s so stupid and gross.” Jamie of course I forgot she hates horses too.

     “Do you want to stay at here babe?” Ian really needs to stop listening to her she wasn’t invited anyway.

     “Come on Jamie it’ll be fun all of us together getting to know each other.” I made sure to make the annoyance in my voice obvious. “Or you could go home if you want.” Such a dreadful girl what does he see in her?

     “No, no it’s ok I’ll be fine as long as Ian is there to protect me.” She said with a smile and then a glare at me.

     “You know I’ll always protect you sweetie.” Ian said with a lovey dovey smile and then they eskimo kissed I looked over at Chris and we both made fake gagging motions. Then we both started giggling. “What’s so funny?” Ian asked with a glare.

     “Nothing.” Chris and I stopped laughing and spoke simultaneously.

    Once we were all tacked up we walked our horses to the mounting block Chris had some how convinced me to let him try riding Dante. So I took him over, he climbed up next to the horse gave him a pat on his neck and soothed him saying “It’s ok boy, I’m just gonna hope on your back now ok?” It was so sweet. But the thing that happened next is the crazy part. Normally when someone gets on him Dante freaks out but Chris hopped on his back and Dante stood perfectly still. Then I let the reins go and Dante stood. I took a few steps away and Dante stood still. It was the most amazing thing how calm he was with Chris. It was the strangest thing Dante was never ok with some one getting on him no matter what so ever but with Chris he was so calm. I guess I’ll just have to see how it goes.

    

     I hopped on to Blue Jeans and every one else got on their horses and off we went. It was amazing what a natural horsemen chris was. Just makes me believe even more that we should be together! I’m Kidding I’m kidding. But still it is really amazing that he’s so good with horses!

     Anyway back to the trail ride. So we got on and every one was paired up pretty much all the couples together and then there was me and Chris, the only ones that weren’t coupled up. So we trotted ahead of every one who walked behind us chatting amongst each other. Chris and I stayed silent and after about five minutes he looked over at me and smiled deviously saying, “Are you being so quite because your jealous?” a very confident tone in his voice.

     “Jealous of what?” I questioned with a raise of my eyebrow, really what was I supposed to be jealous of?

     “That I could get on the horse and you can’t.” He remarked with another devious smile. Really I wasn’t the least bit jealous I was just impressed that Dante let him get on without a freak out. Now I have an idea, I’m going to put his confidence to the test.

     “Well I’m not jealous but, If you wanted to make me jealous you’d have to out ride me.” I said confidently, “There’s a log not to far up ahead think you can jump it?” I asked with a cock of my head and a little bit of a condescending tone knowing he couldn’t say no to the challenge.

     “Of course we can!” He announced with a fake hurt tone to his voice.

     “Alright then, you have to canter over it try to keep up!” I told him with a wink. I then clicked my tongue and nudged Blue Jeans on and off we went! Chris followed quickly behind so I nudged Blue to go faster Chris still managed to get beside me. We both soared over the log it was amazing Blue Jeans has never jumped so well! Then we landed and Blue Jeans took off with me and began to buck, I couldn’t control him and I couldn’t hang on anymore! I flew off of Blue and landed flat on my back. Blue Cantered off, I tried to call him but he wouldn’t come back. I just laid there on the ground trying to get my breath back.

     “Kaylee!” Chris yelled when I fell. I heard a thump and the sound of feet coming towards me, Blue? I wondered, no the steps were to light on the ground. “Kaylee, are you ok? Can you hear me?”

     “Yeah I can hear you. Sorry the fall knocked the wind out of me.” I chocked out, “Now can you help me find my horse?”

     “Y-yes of course but first you’ve got to get up.” He said with a sympathetic tone while pulling me to my feet. “Here I’ll give you a leg up.” He told me smiling sweetly and walking me towards Dante.

     “Woah! I just fell off Blue do you really want me to fall again?” Seriously putting me on Dante right after a fall must have been the most insane thing I’ve ever heard!

     “Just trust me I won’t let anything happen to you, Dante’s a good boy. Besides it’s the only way to get you anywhere.” He did have a point with the only way to get me anywhere thing. But still it did seem crazy to put me on Dante.

     “Fine, only cause it’s the only way to get anywhere.” I agreed while putting my knee in his hands and getting thrown onto the horses back. Chris then slid onto Dantes back behind me I scooted forward in the saddle and Chris put his feet in the stirrups behind me and held onto my waist. Wow I have never felt butterflies like this, my stomach was full of them. I clicked my tongue and gave Dante a little nudge and off we went again.

     “You’re a pretty confident rider for a newbie.” I said turning a little bit to smile at him.

     “Yeah I guess.” He smiled. “Now let’s go get Blue.”

     “Alright do you think we can both hold on tight enough to stay on?” I questioned, I was ready to go fast I needed to get Blue Back there is no telling how far he could get.

     “Let’s go!” Chris replied excitedly, I guess he was starting to really like riding. With that I nudged Dante on and off we went at a gallop. We began to whistle and call for him and suddenly there he was my beautiful Blue. But some how I was saddened by the fact that my horse was back I guess I was having a lot of fun with Chris. Although I didn’t want it to end I brought Dante to a halt and hoped off.

     “Thanks for helping me find my boy Chris,” I thanked him and then ran to Blue grabbed his face and kissed him on the muzzle. “I don’t know what I’d do if we didn’t find him.” I walked to his side and hopped on his back. “Let’s wait here and let the others catchup kay?”

     “Sure we can wait.” He answered with a sweet smile. I just love his smile!
