Chapter 5
Hockey
Chris was right on time. "Hey!" I yelled to him as he drove up to the house.
"Hey! Throw your stuff in the back and let's get going, I don't wanna be late!"
"Alright!" I called. I threw my stuff into the bed of his pickup truck and hopped in the cab beside him. I felt a little nervous now being alone with him.
"Wanna listen to some music to get pumped for the game?" Chris asked me to break the silence as we drove down the lane.
"Yeah sounds good." I replied with a smile. He reached over and turned on the stereo, the song that was playing, The Hockey Song. "I love this song!" I told Chris.
"Me too, it's a great song to get pumped for hockey! Hello out there were on the air," Chris began to sing.
"It's hockey night tonight!" I chimed in. We sang the entire song together.
Hello out there, we're on the air, it's 'Hockey Night' tonight.
Tension grows, the wistle blows, and the puck goes down the ice.
The goalie jumps, and the players bump, and the fans all go insane.
Someone roars, "Bobby Scores!", at the good ol' Hockey Game.
OH! The good ol' Hockey game, is the best game you can name.
And the best game you can name, is the good ol' Hockey game.
Second Period.
Where players dash, with skates aflash, the home team trails behind.
But they grab the puck, and go bursting up, and they're down across the line.
They storm the crease, like bumble bees, they travel like a burning flame.
We see them slide, the puck inside, it's a 1-1 hockey game.
Third Period. Last game of the playoff too!
Oh take me where, the hockey players, face off down the rink.
And the Stanley Cup, is all filled up, for the champs who win the drink.
Now the final flick, of a hockey stick, and the one gigantic scream.
"The puck is in! The home team wins!", the good ol' hockey game.
It's in! He shoots, he scores! Henderson scores for Canada!
We burst out laughing at the end of the song.
"You're a pretty good singer." I giggled.
"So are you." He chuckled. The next song to come on was thunderstruck and I knew we had the same taste in music or at least pump up music.
"This is the ultimate pump up song!" I stated the fact excitedly
"Definitely." He agreed and reached over to turn it up. The music was so loud I'm sure you could hear it a block away! It was fun spending time with him, I'd never really talked to him much but we've been on the same team for a few years here and there but we never really gotten to know each other though.
We didn't talk much the rest of the way but it was nice to just be with him. I caught him stealing a few glances at me, my heart rate sped up every time. Sadly I wouldn't be alone with him for a little while because we had just arrived at practice.
"Hey whose the girl?" One of the boys that hadn't been on my team before said, I think his name was Carl?
"What girl? Kaylee? She's on the team, I gave her a ride." He stated as though it should be obvious. To him it was obvious but if you had never been on my team before you wouldn't have guessed it.
"Oh right! Dude she's hot! You should've given the rest of us a chance." Awe it's sweet that he noticed it, Chris certainly didn't.
"What? Oh! No she's not my girl. Erm, go for it." I guess it's all been in my head then. Did they think their conversation was private?
"Thanks!" I yelled to Carl from behind the truck. I walked around to come face to face with the two boys. "Shall we go in?"
"Uh yeah." They replied in unison, grabbing their bags mortified that I'd heard their conversation.
