The big red sun rose over the Pridelands. Animals flocked to the home of the king, Pride Rock, to welcome the new princes to the world.
Just last night, Ahadi, king of the Pridelands, and his queen, Uru had two healthy cubs. Ahadi was a good king, but also ruled with an iron paw when it came to governing his kingdom. But today he was happy as a cub romping on the plains. He was a new father.
Rafiki, the wise old shaman baboon walked through the crowd of animals at the foot of Pride Rock and climbed up to the king and queen. He greeted Ahadi warmly, and walked up to Uru, who held the two bundles of fur, only two days old.
The cubs were tiny and helpless, their eyes still closed. One had gold fur like his father, and brown eyes like those of his mother. He also appeared to have a tiny red mane growth on top of his head and a red tail tuft, like that of Ahadi's father. The younger, smaller one had red fur like his mother, and what appeared to be a tiny growth of black mane and tail like his father. Rafiki took them, and brought them to the edge of Pride Rock.
Rafiki lifted the cubs over the edge of the towering rock. The animals celebrated the new members of the royal family. The elephants trumpeted, the monkeys jumped up and down, the gazelles leaped for joy, the giraffes lowered their heads, bowing before the princes, and the zebras stamped their hooves with happiness.
Rafiki brought the cubs back to their mother. "What are their names?" he asked. Ahadi beamed.
"Mufasa and Taka."
