Taka's heart sank. Of course his father chose Mufasa. He was always his favorite. Mufasa just stared in shock. Many things were going through his head as well. Being a ruler was a huge responsibility. Uru smiled. "Congratulations, Mufasa." She said. Taka stared at the ground in anger. Uru cleared her throat. "Taka, is there something you want to say to your brother?"
"Congratulations." He said under his breath
For the next few months, their father showed Mufasa the Pridelands, educating him on how to be a good king and how all creatures were connected in the circle of life. Taka felt forgotten. His brother now started spending more time with Ahadi, and his father barely paid attention to him anymore. He was also left out when they went to play with Sarabi and Sarifina. The only ones who still cared were his mother and Zira. His mother reassured him that both Mufasa and Ahadi still loved him very much.
But Zira told him different. She would often tell Taka to go and play by themselves. "Who needs Mufasa anyways?" She said. "We can play by ourselves." For a while this made Taka feel somewhat better, knowing that someone felt the same way he did. But he still missed his best friend.
Another year passed, and Mufasa started to get a bit egotistical. Most likely as a result of his father's praise. Everyone practically worshiped Mufasa, and it was getting to his head. Taka was getting fed up with it.
"Look, Taka! I'm going to rule all of that! Everything the light touches!" Taka rolled his eyes. "Forgive me for not leaping for joy. A bit tired, you know."
Taka needed to do something. Something to get him noticed again. But what?
