Ava's POV

I watch Thomas as he walks out the gate, leaning on the frame of the door. He walks slowly out the gate. I can feel my heart ache so much so I had to grip a piece of my shirt. Once he's out of sight, I finally shut the door behind me. I turn around and just lean on the door and slowly sink to the floor.

I remember what I just told him: "You're nothing to me." Is that what I truly feel? Part of me thinks that's not true. But how is some guy I met a few months ago making me feel this way? I've never felt this way since Cole died in that car crash with his family.

I keep telling myself what I said was right, it was what was required, right? But the other side of me says it's not true. I run my fingers through my hair, pulling it back, and get up and head upstairs. Instead of going to my room, I go to the pantry where I store my wines and spirits. I don't regularly drink them, but only on special occasions do I get a bottle from here. Tonight is one of those occasions. I take two wine bottles and walk downstairs to the kitchen to get a wine glass and head upstairs again to the room and drown myself in the wine till I fall asleep.

I'm on stage at my primary school. I stare at the crowd, who are eager to see what I'm going to do. I'm wearing a pink sparkly dress with a princess tiara on the top of my head. The spotlight shines on me. I glance over to Cole, who's in the front row with his parents. He tosses me a thumbs up and a smile, which fills me with confidence. I signal the pianist behind me to start playing. I open my mouth and start singing.

Guess it's true, I'm not good at a one-night stand
But I still need love 'cause I'm just a man
These nights never seem to go to plan
I don't want you to leave, will you hold my hand?

Oh, won't you stay with me?
'Cause you're all I need
This ain't love, it's clear to see
But darling, stay with me

Why am I so emotional?
No, it's not a good look, gain some self-control
And deep down, I know this never works
But you can lay with me so it doesn't hurt

Oh, won't you stay with me?
'Cause you're all I need
This ain't love, it's clear to see
But darling, stay with me

Oh-oh-oh-ohh, oh-oh, oh-oh (Ooh)
Oh-oh-oh-ohh, oh-oh, oh-oh (Ohh)
Oh-oh-oh-ohh, oh-oh, oh-oh (Ohh)
Oh-oh-oh-ohh, oh-oh, oh-oh (Ohh)

Oh, won't you stay with me?
'Cause you're all I need
This ain't love, it's clear to see
But darling, stay with me
Oh, won't you stay with me?
'Cause you're all I need
This ain't love, it's clear to see
But darling, stay with me

After I finish the song, the crowd immediately gets on their feet and starts clapping. I crack a smile, taking in the atmosphere. My gaze finally falls once more to Cole, who's clapping aggressively. He mouths to me, "You did great." I finally wave at the crowd and bow before I get off the stage.

After the talent show, I meet up with my parents, who embrace me. "You were amazing," my mum says. When my parents let go of me, I see Cole waiting for me with his mom beside him. I face him, and we just stare at each other before we hug. He gives me a kiss on the cheek. "That's my girl." We hug each other for a while before my Dad tells me we need to head to the car. We finally let go of each other, and I go with my parents. We head out separate ways to the back entrance of the theater where the car is parked.
