Name

Originally, VG stood for Vanguard, a title that represented standing at the forefront, leading not only in music and performance but also in attitude, fashion, and cultural influence. As the first unit formed under DIVINE, they embodied the ambition to break boundaries and shape the future of K-pop.

Following their re-debut under DVN Company in 2021, the meaning of VG transformed into VIGARA, a fusion of vigor and aura, signifying a powerful inner energy and magnetic presence. This new identity brought a darker, more daring concept to the forefront, highlighting resilience, defiance, and self-empowerment. It tells the story of rising from the ashes, confronting judgment, and reclaiming one's power with unapologetic fire.

Together, the evolution from Vanguard to VIGARA reflects a journey, from leading with vision to fighting with passion. VG stands not just for a name, but for a legacy of strength, transformation, and fearless artistry.

History

2018 : Formation

VG was originally formed in early 2018 under Excel Entertainment. Their existence was first teased through pre-debut images released on social media, which quickly drew attention. The trio was then publicly introduced through their appearance on Produce 48. Although none of the three members made it into the show's final lineup, Excel confirmed plans for the group's debut later that year.

2018 - 2020 : Debut, USERNAME and IWALY

VG released their debut single album, ACCESS, on October 10, 2018, consisting of tracks "Paint the Town" and "Love Bomb". When asked to describe the song "Love Bomb", member Jina said: "We use the word 'bomb' as a metaphor. The lyrics are very unique, they pop up like bombs. Our unique voices also stand out, and we showcased many different sides of ourselves. When you listen to this song, you will be surprised... and everyone will be curious about who we are, and find out that we're VG!"

On February 13, 2019, they followed up with their second single album USERNAME, which included the dual title tracks "Tick-Tack" and "Log in".

Their third release, the single album UNDERCOVER which included once again a dual title tracks "IWALY" and "Mafia", dropped on May 1, 2019, and became a breakthrough moment for the group. Just two weeks later, on May 14, VG won their first-ever music show trophy on SBS MTV's The Show with "Mafia".

On January 10, 2020, all three members officially debuted as part of DIVINE with the release of the group's debut single "DIVINE". From this point forward, VG was rebranded as a sub-unit within DIVINE.

2021 - present : New agency and VENGEANCE

On April 21, 2021, it was announced that VG, alongside their parent group DIVINE, had departed Excel Entertainment. Both would now be managed under DVN Company, a self-established label founded by the members.

In June 2024, DVN Company revealed that VIGARA (the evolved name of VG) would be releasing their first Korean-language extended play, titled VENGEANCE, on August 16. The EP was supported by three singles: "CLICK CLACK", "WOKE UP", and "XXL". All three charted within the top 10 of the Circle Digital Chart, with "WOKE UP" and "XXL" peaking at #1 and becoming the group's first and second singles to achieve a Perfect All-Kill on Korean music charts.

The EP consists of seven tracks: "V-GENE", "XXL", "outlaw", "hurricane'", "flights not feelings", and the two pre-release "CLICK CLACK" and "WOKE UP". VENGEANCE became a massive commercial success, selling 2,302,378 copies, setting the record for the best-selling K-pop sub-unit album to date. "WOKE UP" debuted at #14 on the Billboard 200, marking the group's first U.S. chart entry, while "XXL" reached #1 on the Billboard Global 200. These achievements also earned VIGARA their first two top ten hits on the Circle Digital Charts, cementing their place as a powerhouse unit in both domestic and international markets.
