Beth stared at the positive pregnancy test as a million thoughts swirled through her head. Beth had always dreamed that when she had taken a pregnancy test she would be ecstatic at a positive reading because her and her husband would have been trying to have a child. But her reality was there was no husband. There wasn't even a boyfriend. Just an ex-boyfriend that decided it was more important to move away with his ex-con brother than it was to stay with his girlfriend.
Knowing that texting him about it wasn't the proper thing and knowing he won't answer the phone when she called she just left a short voicemail that said, 'Hey Daryl. I'm pregnant. We're having a baby. I don't expect anything from you but I just thought you should know.'
She was crying. She knew he'd be able to tell she was crying. And it was true. As much as she loved him, she didn't expect him to come rushing to her side. She didn't even expect him to call her back. And even though she didn't expect him to it killed her that he didn't.
