Daryl had never missed any of Beth's doctor appointments and he had proudly taken her to Lamaze classes. It was so different from her first pregnancy. She didn't get the dirty looks, but it saddened her to see a pregnant woman getting the same looks of scorn and distain she once had.
Beth had invited the woman to lunch and learned her name was Lara. She was nineteen and had been in college when she learned she was pregnant with her college sweethearts baby. And the college sweetheart decided he didn't want anything to do with Lara or their baby.
"I know how it feels," Beth said.
"How? Is Daryl Amelia's stepfather?" Lara asked.
"No," Beth said. "She's Daryl's. But I wasn't with Daryl when I was pregnant with her. Daryl left town with his brother Merle. When Daryl ignored my voicemail that I was pregnant, I realized I was in it alone. Sure, I had my families support. But it killed me to go through it without Daryl. I found out when I was about to go into labor that Merle erased the message and Daryl didn't even know I was pregnant. We pretty much got back together, got married quickly after and Daryl has been the most amazing husband and father. But what you gotta do is just ignore everyone that hates on you. And one day you'll meet someone amazing that would treat you and your baby a million times better than you ever imagined."
Lara did find that someone in a male nurse named Noah, who had attended to her while she was admitted for Braxton Hicks contractions. Beth was Lara's maid of honor and a slightly reluctant Daryl was Noah's best man.
"I look like a whale," Beth said to Daryl.
"Please," Daryl said, waving his hand at her. "Yer just startin' ta show. 'Sides, I think ya look hot. So hot I'd take ya on the table right now if all these people weren't watchin'. Let's go to our hotel room and burn up those sheets."
Beth knew Daryl was kinda drunk and very horny. And with her pregnancy hormones she was very horny too.
"Definitely," Beth grinned. "But I have to use the restroom first. I'll be right back."
When Beth came back she had seen a sight that made her blood boil. Some skanky looking dark haired woman had pressed herself onto Daryl and rubbed her hand from his chest to his crotch. Beth wanted to beat the crap outta the woman and burst into tears as the same time. But she knew she had to see how this played out. Her marriage hung in the balance at this moment. This moment defined whether she'd be burning the sheets with her husband or return to being the woman given dirty looks for being pregnant without a man again.
"Get the fuck offa me," Daryl said, roughly pushing the woman away. "I'm married!" Daryl yelled, shoving his ring finger in the skanks face.
"But I made ya hard," the woman said. "We can just get a room. Yer wife doesn't need ta know."
"Please! I ain't hard over yer skanky ass! I'm hard cause my hot ass wife practically had me wantin' ta fuck the shit outta her on that table over there! And here she is!"
The snank stalked off, and soon realized everyone at the bar started heckling her and calling her a whore. Beth didn't feel sorry for that woman though. Not when she put the moves on her man and still tried even after Daryl told her he was married and rejected her.
"Sorry you had ta see that baby," Daryl said.
"Ain't nothin' fer you to be sorry about," Beth told him. "You didn't do nothin'."
"Never," Daryl promised. "I'll always be faithful to you, babydoll."
Daryl broke some promises. Like promising to pick up milk and forgetting. But the important promises, the promises that mattered, were never broken. And the promise to be faithful to Beth was a promise he never broke. And it was a promise Beth never broke either.
