<<Chapter 14: Summer School and Sizzling Bacon>>
RECAP:
Kate just had a slumber party with Sloane, Natalia, and Rachel - three of her female best friends. Serena was also present, but she was an attention-seeking brat the entire night. Kate made a bet with Preston, one of her best friends of the male population, to see which slumber party could stay up the longest--Kate wins, pulling an all-nighter, and now Preston owes her $20. Now, Kate and the majority of her grade are taking an ethics course required for all juniors in advance, which is for two weeks at the beginning of the summer. Caroline is moving to South Africa just after she and Finn finally get together, but Kate thinks that she's nearly over her crush on him, anyways....- - - - - - - -
"Hey! Kate, over here!" Matthew calls to me as I step out into the third floor of the high school building. Today is the first day of that dumb ethics course! *Fun*
"Hey, Matt!" I smile, adjusting the strap of my black backpack as I approach him.
"So this is Tyler," Matt shoves a dark brown-haired boy in front of me with stunning blue eyes. "Tyler, Kate--Kate, Tyler," Matt gestures between us.
"Hey," I smile lightly, tucking a strand of my wavy, dark brown hair behind my ear. Damn, he's cute! Tyler definitely has that whole 'hot nerd' sort of thing down to a T, with his black-rimmed glasses and messy hair.
"Hi!" He grins, flashing his dimples. "So I hear that you're a lot like Preston, huh?"
"Yeah, apparently," I chuckle. People oftentimes think that Preston and I are really similar because of our similar outlooks on life, I guess.
"So you must be pretty smart then, huh?" Tyler smirks, making my insides melt like marshmallows over a campfire.
"I guess you can say that," I smirk in return and we head into the classroom--Matthew and another of his friends, Damien, in tow.
"Hey, Kate! Over here!" Farrah calls to me, gesturing to the seat next to her in the back of the classroom.
Farrah and I have been assigned to the same ethics classroom, thank god I have a friend in this shitty course. I take a seat next to Farrah, and Tyler, Matt, and Damien sit directly in front of us. I keep nonchalantly looking over to Tyler, and I catch him staring at me once or twice too before immediately looking away. Ahh, we're acting just like middle schoolers with petty crushes.
So apparently Caroline moves to South Africa later this week. Also, apparently, she and Finn have decided to not try the whole long-distance relationship thing. It's weird though, because I honestly don't really care. I feel kind of bad for the kid, really--I saw Finn moping around the hallway earlier today. Poor guy just grew the balls to ask out Caroline, only to find out that she's moving across the world. Life sucks sometimes.
The best part? I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my chest! I don't know what it is, but it's kind of liberating to know that I don't really care what he does with his love life at this point.
"Okay, class! Please open up your laptops and sign into the school network," our new teacher calls out as he walks into the room. "I'm Dr. Silverman, and I'll be your teacher for the next few weeks! Hopefully this class won't be completely boring for you guys, and I'll try to make it as interesting as possible!" He walks over to his desk and sits down, plugging in his computer to the smart board at the front of the classroom. His desktop screen projects on the board as he pulls up the school page, showing us where all of our course assignments are listed. Oh, joy... Pages on pages of homework!! *cries a river*

"Oh hey, what are you doing for that amendment project?" Tyler walks up and asks me while we're on a snack break. We have this presentation project where we have to propose a fake 27th amendment, then everyone in our class votes on it and we see if it passes--I guess it's supposed to teach us how the government works or some shit like that.
"Abolishing animal cruelty," I smile.
"Damn, your amendment is going to pass for sure! Come on, cute pictures of animals? You've got my vote." Tyler laughs as he adjusts his glasses.
"Thanks!" I grin wide. "What are you doing?"
"Something to do with gun rights, I think. I honestly have no idea, Damien and Matt are busy brainstorming in the corner over there," Tyler laughs and gestures in their direction, where I see Damien and Matt throwing whiteboard markers at each other whilst screaming like they're running into battle.
"Oh jeez, what will we ever do with those two morons," I laugh along with Tyler, and we snack on the chips that were passed out for snack. His laugh is pretty cute, if I do say so myself.

"So how was your ethics teacher?" Rachel asks me as we pile our backpacks into her car.
After ethics we went and ate lunch in the cafeteria, then went to the dance studio at school with Sloane to take a class. Now we're headed back to Rachel's place so that we can do some of the homework together.
"He's pretty nice. A little weird and talks a bit, but he grades really easy from what I can tell, so that's a plus!" I say, giving her a general analysis.
"Yeah, my teacher seemed pretty nice. But damn, we have a lot of homework!" Rachel clicks her tongue in distaste and I chuckle lightly, nodding my my head in agreement as we get into her car and make our way to her house.
"Why does my phone keep buzzing? Dear god, it's like someone put a vibrator on my seat--it won't stop!" Rachel grunts, and I notice that my phone has been doing the same.
"Whaaa...?" I'm awestruck when I look at my lock screen, which displays 200 unread text messages.
"Holy shit, one of those morons must've made a group chat," Rachel says, snatching her phone from the center console and reading through it as we're stopped at a red light.
"Oh dear," I say, reading through the contact list. It contains Natalia, Sloane, Matt, Mitchell, George (ugh), Morris (fucking hell...), James, Preston, Rachel, and I. 10 people, for fucks sake.
I snatch Rachel's phone when the light turns green, deciding to have a little fun while I'm on it.
"Want $5 back?" I ask Rachel as I type out a nice little paragraph into the group chat. She owes me $35, so this is a great way for her to earn back some money, am I right?
"Sure... what for?" She asks hesitantly.
"Let me send one text of whatever I want to the group chat, and $5 are yours!" I grin evilly.
"Eh, what the hell--go for it." Rachel shrugs her shoulders as she continues to drive.
"Great!" I say as I hit the 'send' button. People will probably figure it was me anyways, so who cares.
The lovely message sent from Rachel's phone read:
- RACHEL <3:23>: Dearest Morris, I don't know why everyone is unable to believe this, but I honestly do really like you. I think that I've fallen in love, as silly as this sounds. I've been thinking of ways to tell you and I'm sorry that I made myself look like an ass earlier, I really am, but I wanted you to know. All of you. Also, I'd like to take a moment to mention that Tyler Banks is an extremely good looking kid. Bacon sizzles when it touches his hotness. -
Oh, this should be great. That Morris twat deserves everything that's coming to him. The responses came rolling in almost immediately.
- MORRIS <3:23>: wtf this is bull -
Laugher pours out of me like water from a faucet, even though I'm cringing slightly--I canNOT stand when people use the word "bull"!!! Just say "bullshit" goddamn it!
- NATALIA <3:23>: bacon sizzles omg -
And the best one...
- PRESTON <3:23>: Hi Kate -
