"I can't." I told Clayton quitely. "I'm not ready yet."
He gave me a sympathetic look. "I know, but Leigh he's going to find out sooner or later."
"I know, but I- I pick later." I said feeling like such a coward.
Clayton sighed and was about to say something when Melissa piped in. "Hey sweetie, what are you afraid of anyway? His reaction."
"I'm not-" I was about to say I wasn't afraid but I knew she was right. I was afraid. "I mean, it's just- what if Jesse....what if he doesn't want her? What if he gets mad? What if he hates Nika? Both of us?"
"Well, then I honestly think that keeping it from him longer will just make thins worse and he'll be even more upset that you didn't tell him sooner. So I think they're right. Maybe you need to tell him now."
I sighed. they were right.
It takes a lot to get Jesse mad, but the one thing that really gets to him is lying. He hated liars.
If he found out now, he wouldn't be as mad as I'm sure he will be if he finds out later.
And if he doesn't want to take part in our daughters life, then so be it.
I hope he does though.
I don't want my baby growing up not knowing her own father.
"Ok, I'll tell him later on tonight but right now I just need time with Nika." I said and Melissa handed her to me.
I smiled at her. "Thanks. For the advice and for letting us stay at your apartment tonight even if we aren't going to anymore."
She smiled back at me and patted my hand. "Anything for Clayton's almost sister. And you're a very sweet girl and I'm happy I got to meet you and Nika."
"Well since we're not going to go to your apartment, you guys can go ahead and do whatver I guess." I told them both.
Clayton chuckled. "I think we'll stop by the party and say hi to some old friends." He looked at Mel. "That ok with you babe?"
Melissa nodded. "Sure, I think that would be fun."
Calyton looked at me. "If you need anything, just give me a call ok?"
I nodded. "Ok,"
"Good luck with Jesse." Melissa told me smiling and then bent down and kissed one of Nika's tiny hands.
I smiled. "Thanks again."
After they left, I went to our room and set Nika in her crib. I then looked around and remembered our bags were still downstairs.
Nika was asleep so I decided to go downstairs and claim them. I didn't hear any talking so I assumed everyone already left for the party.
I walked down the stairs and was about to grab my bag when my stomach growled. That's when I realized I haven't eaten anything yet.
I'd been to preoccupied packing our stuff that I forgot to eat.
Putting the bags down, I walked to the kitchen and decided to cook one one of those hamburger helper- macaroni and cheese things.
While I waited for it to be finished cooking, I grabbed our bags and headed upstairs.
I set the bags down and walked over to Nika's crib. She was still peacefully asleep.
I ran my thumb on her cheek and smiled sadly at her.
"I'm sorry it's taking me so long to introduce you to your dad." I whispered. "I just hope he loves you too and know you as his daughter. If he doesn't, just always remember mommy will always love you and will never ever leave you."
