ANDRÉ

We stared at him. “How old are you?” Alice gaped. Jocko chuckled. “About...590 I guess. My best mate André is about 1000 though.” Jacob’s mouth dropped. “But...you’re only twelve!” Jocko grinned at him. “Hardly,” he smirked. Rosalie frowned. “Prove it,” she demanded. Jocko picked up the phone, dialed a VERY long number, then a second later there was a knock on the door.

I raised my eyebrows. “That was quick,” I said. Edward laughed. Carlisle went to get the door.

A kid with brown hair and green eyes walked in, dragging a girl by the scruff of her collar. “Can you let go of me now?” she growled. André laughed. “Not a chance.” Jocko gestured to her. “This Lizzie?”

André nodded. Jasper’s mouth had dropped. I didn’t know why. Nobody however was focused on him.

“Can someone explain things here?” Alice requested. I grinned. André shrugged. “Okay. Lizzie, explain.” Lizzie scowled. “No,” she said defiantly. Her black hair had blonde streaks and it fell glamourously over her shoulders. She was beautiful in a very unusual but special way. I frowned in confusion. She was avoiding eyes with Jasper who was avoiding eyes with her. Why? Jocko gave a chuckle. “I’ll explain,” he said.

“André was created by the Volturi. He’s three quarters a vampire but in order for him to become old enough to join their side, they made his mother a human.”

“They knew?” Edward said in outrage. “They knew about this? And they let that happen to us?”

“Shut up,” Jocko snapped. “Let me finish.”

“So André grew up with the Volturi. He was given access to all rooms so one day during a Volturi meeting, he snuck into the private library and found a book of magic. He didn’t believe in magic but as he read on, he learnt about it and soon became exceedingly powerful. As soon as he was twelve almost two hundred years after he was born, his growing rate decreased. He’s now supposed to be at about fourteen. He thought his life was very limited with the Volturi so he stole the book and made a run for it. The Volturi, surprisingly did not come after him so André grew up alone, becoming more and more powerful. He traveled the world finding magic from each and every culture and he became the legend: ‘The Master of Magic.’ He picked me up from Makah when I’d just learnt how to phase. He said in order for me to become his right hand man, I had to become immortal, like him. I agreed. We traveled and he taught me things about wolves and so on. About six hundred years ago, André found a hollow tree with unknown powers. He cut it open and found a gem. It held powers neither of us had ever seen. André tried to harness its powers, but we had to wait until we found the creator of the gem. Until then, André sealed it in a necklace which he gave to me as a present, making the pendant a wolf. He also sealed a power within the necklace alone that when the gem was removed from the necklace, the person who wore the necklace, if he was chosen by the power, he would become ruler of all wolves. As we traveled to find the creator, we realised he/she was probably long dead so we figured that the gem wanted either the creator or an ancestor. On our way to Egypt (André recognised the writing on the stone as hieroglyphics) we lost the necklace. André, luckily, had branded me with the necklace’s seal so we carried on looking for an ancestor. André sensed I would soon be called for from my village and ordered me to go back, meanwhile he’d find the ancestor and bring them to wherever I was. He wrote a letter telling me he’d found Lizzie and I wrote back saying my brand was starting to sting and he said that the necklace was probably close by. And that’s the end of that story.”

We all stared at Jocko. “Wow,” Renesmee said finally. “André must be kind of like me!” I paused. “I guess you’re right,” I said to her. “You’re just half vampire. He’s more vampire than you.” André looked at her in interest. “You’re half vampire?” he asked. She nodded. “I was human two years ago,” I explained. André nodded. “I get that. Look, Jocko told me that this dude had the necklace.” Jasper gritted his teeth. “Indeed. My brother.” André shrugged that off. “Whatever. Look, I need that gem, meanwhile I’ll give the necklace to the Quiluetes. One of them can become leader of the wolves.”

“Sam,” Jacob said immediately as all eyes turned to him. “I’m not becoming a complete Alpha.” There was a crash and a scream. André looked around. “Where’s Lizzie?” he cried. There was a muffled cry. “Shut up you little brat!” came a growl. “Maria!” Edward and Jasper said at once. We raced downstairs and saw a knife at Lizzie’s throat. “One more step and she dies,” Maria threatened. Jasper’s face was...different. He looked strangely panicked. “Jazz, we can’t afford to lose her,” André said urgently. “You can’t remember what the pass is! Lizzie’s the only one who knows! And you know you don’t want to be responsible for your own...I mean, her death.” “Your own what?” Alice asked suspiciously. Maria’s grin was infuriating. “You mean dear old Jasper didn’t tell you? He didn’t tell you about his love affair in the human army?” Alice’s eyes grew wide and incredulous. Jasper looked at the floor. I gasped. Maria was enjoying herself. “He didn’t tell you about those two years in Mexico? He didn’t tell you about his daughter?” “Daughter?” Alice shrieked. Carlisle’s face was astonished. “Yeah...his daughter!” Lizzie yelled. “Me!” Alice was staring at Jasper. “Why did you never tell me?” she whispered. Jasper did not respond. “Tell her, Jasper,” Maria chortled. “No,” Jasper snarled. “You can’t make me.” Maria smirked. “Oh yes I can.” There was a pause, then the most terrifying sound I’d ever heard. Alice’s scream. It echoed through the room, her eyes glaring topaz. Jasper was frozen to the spot. “Stop!” he shouted in panic. Maria stopped gazing at Alice and leant against the wall in boredom. Jasper rushed to Alice’s side. Seeing as it was real pain, I knew this gift had the potential to do permanent damage. “Leave her, Jasper. I’ll see that she’s okay,” Carlisle said. “Negotiate with Maria. We can’t let Lizzie die, yet we can’t let Maria escape.” Jasper nodded. He kissed Alice on the forehead, then stood up, trembling. “Bella,” he murmured. I suddenly understood. I needed to use my shield. Maria wouldn’t be able to see it so I could surprise her. As carefully as I could, I let it bind around my family, yet I knew Lizzie was unprotected. I couldn’t protect two groups in two places at once. Oh god. What was I going to do?
