UNTOLD
Jacob glared at Jocko. "Tell them what you told the pack. It will explain things if you're going to be staying here for a while."
Jocko gave a groan, and then started to speak, staring at the ground. "In Makah, we aren't allowed to call bloodsuckers by their real specie name. We'll get cursed by the gods. My mum never used to look after me. So when Embry and Quil came over from the Quiluete reservation, I was more than happy to go. But on the way I started to hit the spurt. They explained what was going on and I remembered when I saw a picture of a big, black wolf on my bedroom door and..."
Suddenly, Alice's face went blank. Jasper turned to her expectantly and Edward gave a shout of horror, making us all jump.
"What's going on?" Jacob asked. "Is it the Volturi?"
Alice shook her head. "No, you wouldn't know her. Jasper is the only one who knows Maria."
"Maria?" Rosalie and I shrieked in unison.
"Maria?" Esme gasped.
"Maria, the one who changed Jasper?" Carlisle said in astonishment.
Alice nodded. "She wants Jazz back." Jasper looked pale, like he was about to faint. I suddenly cast a glance at Jocko, who was unusually silent.
"Do you know Maria?" I asked cautiously. Jocko hesitated, then nodded. "How?" I pressed on. Jocko sighed. "I was in Texas one year and I smelt her. She saw me and asked me where I was from. I told her. Then on my way home, I stole a necklace from her. It had a wolf on it and it looked important. She told me she'd have revenge, even if she had to make me cold blooded herself. That's when I realised she was a bloodsucker." I noticed Rosalie was going paler and paler as Jocko spoke. She saw me staring and mouthed "I'll tell you later." I nodded.
Jasper shivered. Carlisle put a hand on his son's shoulder. "This means a fight doesn't it?" he said heavily. Jasper nodded. "Maria won't let me go without a fight."
Renesmee looked up, confused. For a reason, I had not told her about Jasper's changing. I didn't want her having nightmares. She didn't know Rosalie's story either, but she trusted me enough to not question it. I had promised to tell her when she was 16.
Jasper closed his eyes and breathed out a barely audible groan of irritation. Alice took his hand. "Don't worry," she said. "We'll sort this out."
"For sure," Emmet said, looking thrilled at the thought of a fight. To tell the truth, I was also excited about a fight. Three out of four fights so far in my vampire involved life I'd been sitting, watching on the sidelines. To be involved in one more fight would be...fun wasn't the word but exciting would be. Unfortunately, I had subconsciously lifted by shield, so Edward could clearly see what I was thinking. He locked my gaze in his. "Whoops," I muttered. He smiled and then sighed. "You want a fight?" he said incredulously.
"Sort of," I mumbled. Emmet gave a roar of delight and put his arm around my shoulders. "She's picking up my side of the family!" he laughed loudly. I grimaced in total embarrassment. There was a loud bang from the kitchen. Jasper jumped up and gave a snarl. "Nettie and Lucy!" he said angrily. Emmet and Edward jumped up. There was a loud crack before both of them could do anything. We all rushed into the kitchen. Jasper had both Nettie and Lucy strung on the wall. "What does Maria want?" he demanded. Nettie grinned. "Not telling," she teased. Jasper pursed his lips. "You know what I'm capable of, Nettie," he said, his voice soft and dangerous. Nettie's face become scared. "I still won't tell," she said defiantly. Alice's face went blank again. Edward frowned. "Jasper has a brother?" he asked.
