ARROGANCE
On the way home, I picked Alice up from Olympia. I told her all about Jocko. She wrinkled her nose. "I told you Bella. Young werewolves..." "...Shape-shifters," I corrected her. "...Whatever. Young shape-shifters are arrogant and dangerous." I rolled my eyes. "Oh well. Jake isn't a young shape-shifter anymore and I can more than protect myself." Alice smiled. "I know. That's one of the advantages of you being changed."
When I arrived home, Jasper and Emmet were betting on the outcome of the football game. "You two are almost as bad as Billy and Charlie," I complained to my brothers. They ignored me. "Speaking of Billy," I said to everyone. "Turns out he's the one who is finally Embry's father." Esme put down her book. "Really?" she said in interest. "I was wondering how that would turn out." Alice and I explained about Jocko. Emmet grinned over the roar of the tv. "I'd like to teach him some manners."
"You'll do nothing of the sort," Esme said sharply. Emmet laughed. "I wish I could!" he chuckled. I laughed too and headed upstairs where Renesmee was flicking through Wuthering Heights, looking bored. "Got some books," I said, handing them to her. She grabbed The Man from Pomegranate Street eagerly and flipped it open, lying back on her bed. "No: thanks mum you're the best and you deserve to win a million dollars?" I grinned. She laughed. "Thanks, mummy," she said. I moved on to the room where the music was coming from. I knew Edward was playing it. The music would stop abruptly once in a while and I knew he must be composing something new. I walked in and the music stopped again. "Why did you stop?" I complained. Edward grinned and jumped up to kiss me.
"Jacob is coming!" Alice yelled. Though we were safe, Alice kept an eye out for the Volturi by keeping a tab on our future and when it would disappear, she knew a werewolf was coming.
"I heard about Jocko," Edward said. "I never thought I'd say this but poor Jacob." I nodded in agreement. "I feel sorry for him. And for Embry and Billy. I wonder what will happen. What if conflict brews and everything goes wrong and...?"
Edward laughed. "You're still the worry-guts you were when you were human," he chortled. I scowled. "That's not funny," I pouted.
"Yes, it is!" Edward laughed. I growled at him and stomped on his foot. Unfortunately, my newborn strength had faded and he was now stronger than me again.
"You're very arrogant," he smirked. Suddenly his face turned sour. "Jacob has a little twelve year old addition with him," he said through unmoving lips.
"Aw man," I groaned. We went downstairs as slowly as possible. Emmet was standing at the door. "Hey dog," Emmet greeted Jacob. Jake laughed. Emmet looked at Jocko. "You must be the kid who needs anger management?" "Move it bloodsucking leech," Jocko growled, pushing Emmet aside. Emmet gave a snarl and grabbed the boy's collar, ripping it. "OI!" Jocko shouted, spinning round. Emmet stood back, crouched. Jocko started trembling. Jacob grabbed his shoulder. "Jock, you're not old enough to phase yet. Plus you need to control your anger. Calm down." Jocko glared at Emmet and then stood up straight. Emmet let out another soft growl but Rosalie put a restraining hand on his shoulder and whispered something in his ear. Emmet scowled and flopped onto the couch beside me. Renesmee buried her face in my hair, quivering with fright. I whispered to her "It's okay, you can look now." She peeked through my brown hair and saw Jacob squeeze in beside Emmet and grin at her. She grinned back and jumped over to his lap.
