"What are you two doing here?" Simon hissed, attempting to block them from view of the other band members.
Clary, clutching her side, leaned against the doorframe. "Simon, thank God! Quick, we'll explain later, just let us-" Jace shouldered his way past Simon, dragging Clary along after him.
"I'm not sure you understand our situation, vampire. It's kind of serious." He took in the garage with a sweep of his gold eyes. Immediately, his face hardened into a scowl. Eric and the rest of the guys were staring at Jace with a funny look on their faces. Simon heard a drumstick drop with a clatter.
"Erm.... Who are you?" Eric asked bluntly. Jace ignored him and pulled Simon aside. Clary and Jordan joined them next to a pair of speakers and a bundle of colourful wiring.
"Simon, you have to get the guys out of here!" Clary said hurriedly, her hair a tangled mess, escaping from it's bun. "The demons-they're still coming!"
"The what?" Jordan spluttered. "Demons? Following you?" He stared at Jace intently, waiting for an answer. Jace frowned, thinking. He ran a hand through his blonde hair. Simon could see numerous seraph blades arranged along his belt. Why, a guy would bring weapons with him on a date, Simon didn't know. But then again, this was Jace.
"Yes, demons. A whole pack." Before Jordan could ask how many, Jace interrupted. "A lot. Too many to be an accident." He turned quickly to Simon. "Do you have a car or something-"
Eric interrupted again with a loud cough. "Hello? We're still here, you know. And hey, I remember you!" He pointed at Jace dramatically. "You're the dude who was at one of our gigs! Wanna join?"
Jace stared at him for a moment before responding. "No, I don't want to join you stupid band! Now, do you have a car?" He looked very menancing, eyes slitted like a cat's. Simon was surprised Eric didn't shrink into a puddle of sweat. Jace's stares tended to have that effect.
Eric looked taken aback. "Excuse me, but you just called Meticulous Sardine st-"
Simon hastily stepped in before Eric could anger Jace further. He looked murderous. "Look, can we just use your car? We, um... Clary's... er.... aunt is sick. With....pneumonia. So we have to visit her. Just lend us the car, will you?" Eric looked confused for a moment, then stuck his hand in his pocket and brought out the keys.
"Ok, but just don't bring it back drenched in blood like last time." He shuddered. "That was freaky."
"Great! Sure!" Jordan grabbed the keys and ran out the door after Clary and Jace, who were already outside. Simon smiled apologetically at the band and shrugged. He darted off towards the others, leaving the rest of Meticulous Sardine staring after him in bafflement.
"We got a plan, Shadowhunter?" Jordan asked, slamming his foot on the gas pedal. Clary was thrown backwards and bumped into Simon on the back seat. Jace, seated at the passenger seat, quickly looked behind him.
"Not really, no." He said. "Just drive straight. You know, away from the demons."
Jordan snorted. "Yeah, I got that, thanks." He sped down the block, whizzing dangerously around corners. Luckily, barely any cars were out this time of night. If this weren't the case, they all would have crashed and died long ago.
Jace called out in general, "Anyone got a phone? We have to call the Institute, they could send in people to help us." Clary cursed herself for leaving her phone at her house. Nobody else brought theirs either. Jace groaned, thinking harder. He looked out the back window and turned paler.
Clary glanced out to see what he was looking at, and then immediately wished she hadn't. The stupid monsters moved fast for such large creatures. The spider demons especially, were just a few yards behind them. She cried out. Jace, still looking backwards, cursed and yelled at Jordan to drive faster just as a spider demon squirted out a stream of yellow-ish poison. It landed on the window and sizzled right through the glass.
