The slim figure glided along the streets, keeping to the dark shadows. She smiled to herself, remembering the taste of her last meal. A scream filled the air, emanating from where she had just come from. Soon, the police cars would be arriving, searching for the murderer. But she would be long gone by then. She supressed a girlish giggle, licking her lips and thinking of him. Ever since she had met him, she had been happy. Oh, yes, very happy. He supplied her with all she ever needed.
She reached the hideout, a dark abandoned warehouse that had collapsed in on itself, resulting in a large pile of wood pieces buried under several feet of rubble and debris. She easily picked her way around the junk, reaching a hidden tunnel, going down, deep into the earth. She stepped in without hesitation, flipping her hair as she went.
After several minutes down the tunnel, gliding easily almost vertically downwards, she reached a small, cracked door, muddy from the earth around it. She ducked inside and found a large corridor spread out in front of her, torches lighting up the hall eerily. She straightened up, walking along the concrete floor, footsteps soundless, her bare feet not making a single mark on the thick dust coating the ground. She reached the end of the hall, practically skipping to the last door. Confidently, she knocked on the huge double doors, ignoring the large brass knocker in the shape of a majestic lion. The heavy wood made the noise resound all around the corridor, making dirt clumps fall from the unprotected ceiling.
The door creaked open, revealing the boy, his light hair bright in the torchlight. His long dark cloak made it stand out even more, his face pale and ghostly. "Maureen."
"Hello, Sebastian," Maureen said cheerfully. He stood in the doorway, towering over her. But nonetheless, he was beautiful, his eyes full of menace. Just what Maureen liked; evil.
"I take it you checked out the situation?" He asked expectantly, moving aside to let her into the room. It was bare, with the exception of a large table filling the majority of the room. Sebastian took a seat, filling two glasses with wine. He downed half the glass with a flourish. Maureen, despite being only fourteen years of age, followed suit. The wine tasted bitter yet sweet, leaving a pleasant burning sensation in her throat.
"Yep," she sang, "and you were right, there was chaos! The demons chased them to the downtown werewolf pack. I couldn't get too close to the werewolves, but I watched from a window. They killed most of the demons when the other Shadowhunters got there though. It's a shame there wasn't more blood." She frowned slightly. "But that's okay, I caught a snack hanging around outside a bar." She licked her lips, tasting the sugar in his blood again. He had been such a tasty kill.
Sebastian nodded slightly. "I hope you didn't make too much of a commotion. Don't want the Clave to catch on to us." Then he smiled slightly, lips curling in a cruel fashion. Maureen laughed too. Like the Clave could track Sebastian; they were just a group of ignorant little fools with powerless weapons against their army.
"But Sebastian, what I don't understand is why you didn't just send all the demons. Why hold back when you can easily tear them all apart?"
Sebastian smirked, as if he was expecting this question. "Because I want to tear them down slowly. Rip out their morale, crush them with time. It's no fun killing them off right away, now is there?" Maureen shook her head, downing the rest of her wine.
Sebastian pushed his chair back silently and stood with grace. "I'm going now, it's almost time." There was no need to ask where he was going, as he never told her.
Maureen got up too, her head slightly fuzzy with the alchohol. "Sebastian," she called out just as he reached the doors. He turned, arching a light eyebrow slightly. "You know that you're like the most wanted person in the Shadow World, right? You should probably be careful, everyone's looking for you..." Her voice trailed off.
