I wake up at ten-thirty, later than usual. My phone suddenly buzzes, surprising me and causing me to hit my head on the headboard. I rub the sore bit on the back of my head as I grab my mobile. I have a text from an unknown number. 'Hey Brandi. It's Drew. I forgot to get your phone number yesterday. I hope you don't mind that I asked my Mom for it. Just wondering if you want to meet up today? Call me!' I find myself grinning wider and wider as the text goes on. As quick as my crappy mobile would let me, I dial the number that the text was sent from. It doesn't ring for long before someone picks up.
"Hey, Brandi! Wow, that was quick," Drew says in that amazingly smooth voice of his.
"Uh, hey. Yeh, well, I didn't want to keep you waiting," I reply with a giggle.
"So, uh, do you want to meet up today, or what?" he asks.
"Oh, sure!" I respond, revealing more of my excitement than I mean to. "What do you want to do?"
"Well, a couple of friends of mine are meeting at the basketball court today. We could meet them there and maybe go to the mall after?"
"Yeh, that sounds cool. I don't have a drivers licence, so..."
"I'll pick you up at midday," I can hear the smile in his voice. "Is that enough time for you to get ready?"
"Um, yeh. That should be okay. See you then, Drew."
"See ya!"
I make sure the call has ended before I let out a little excited squeal. I paused for a second, realising how stupid it is to be getting this excited about going out with a guy I've only just met. It's not even a date, you idiot!, I think to myself as I start to unzip my suitcase. Then, I suddenly notice the blue box hidden under some of my clothes. I gasp, shocked that I have forgotten about it. I grab it gently, trying not to damage whatever is inside. As I lift the lid, tears begin to form in my eyes...
