As we pull up at the basketball court, two of the three of Drew's friends that are there run up to the car. A boy, slightly shorter than Drew, with messy, brown hair and hazel eyes pulls Drew into one of those man hugs. He is really skinny, with only a small amount of muscle on his arms, unlike Drew who is really muscly. "Hey, Drew!" he says as they pull away from eachother. The second is a girl, about the same height as the boy. She has mid-length hair that is a slightly darker shade than that of the boy. She has big, hazel eyes that eye me cautiously. She is very slender and wears a small, summer dress, the same colour as my top. She grabs Drew by the shoulders and gives him a quick peck on the cheek, which he looks quite uncomfortable about. "Hi, Drew! Who's this?" I hear a hint of disgust in her voice." Just at that moment, another boy runs over and shakes Drew's hand before giving him another man hug. He is about the same height as Drew, and also has blonde hair. He has blue eyes and is really muscly. "Hey, Drew!" He eyes me and says in a voice quieter than before, "Who's this?" He winks at Drew. Drew rolls his eyes. "Brandi, this is Ryan," Drew says as he points to the blonde one. "Kate, and Mikey. Guys, this is Brandi. She's the new girl I was telling you about. I thought she could come out with us all today, since she doesn't really know anybody here." The three friends exchange some looks before the brown-haired one called Mikey says something. "Yeh, sure, that's fine. We're just about to head over to the mall now!"
Leaving Drew's car behind, we all cram into Ryan's car, which is smaller than Drew's. The whole car ride, Kate stares at me with an unexplainable expression.
When we arrive at the mall, we head straight to the cinema. "What's the name of the movie?," I ask, not really directing the question to anyone in particular. "It's called Runner," Mikey answers. "It's an ACTION!" I laugh, and he laughs as well.
I enjoy the beginning of the movie, but towards the middle, the violence increases to a level higher than my expectations. Drew notices me cowering away, hiding behind my knees. He pulls up the armrest between us and pulls me closer to him. I look to my right, where Mikey is sitting. He looks back at me, smiling. I can only just see him in the dark of the theatre, yet, in those few seconds of eye contact, I'm able to realise just how good-looking he really is. After staring for a little longer than necessary, I stand up and whisper to Drew, "Uh... I'm just going to go get some more popcorn."
"Sure," he replies, eyes locked on the screen.
As I walk outside towards the candy counter, I think to myself, What is it about this town and hot guys? This is ridiculous...
