The year my life truly began
Was the year I saw you
Watching me curiously
Across the courtyard
With those soft gray eyes.
Eyes that have given me many longing looks.
Full of love and promises of a lifetime
A lifetime that was cut short.

The first time you spoke to me
With a voice as smooth as silk
And soft like velvet
My heart pounded so loudly
I bet aliens could hesr it on Mars.

You told me your name
Sam
Clear as day.
I told you mine
In a shaky nervously excited voice
Lucie.

I don't remember much else of the conversation
I was too focused on that smile of yours.
Full rose pink lips and perfectly white teeth
A slight gap between your front teeth
The only flaw
But I saw perfection in it.
A smile that could light
Even the darkest of nights.
A smile that is forever etched in my mind.

The memory of your smile
Is the only thing
Keeping me warm
In this cold, invisible world.
