Scarlett:

Everyone deserves a second chance. At least that's what I believe in. No one is perfect in life and that's okay. We all make mistakes and we all learn from it. If we were perfect, then how would we learn? Mom taught me that human beings all are vulnerable to love. Everyone loves something. I to want to love someone with all my heart. As I look at Mother and Father all I see is love and care in their eyes. I also want to love someone just like that.

"Hey mama." I whisper softly as I hug her from behind. My arms wrap around her waist as I look up to her. Everyone I talk to is always taller than me, not a lot of short people in my village exist. I take in a deep breath and Mom's familiar scent washes over me and immediately puts me to a rest. Mom has always had a calm aura around her that I bask in.

"How's my little snowflake doing? Are you ready for the celebration?" Mother asks me as she turns me around to face her. I giggle and do a twirl, showing my light blue dress.

"Gorgeous, now go and help the others while if finish up the decorations." I nod my head obediently and wander around the others to see if anyone needs help. Today is the marriage of the chief's son. It's a very big thing considering he only has one son. So the village is in excitement as everyone prepares for the festival.

Everyone greets me and I smile and greet back. Its always polite to smile, even if you don't like them that much. People are like mirrors in a way, if you smile at them a smile will be reflected back at you.

I walk around and go near the village gates. I'm not allowed to step out of the village as Father doesn't allow it. He says there are demons outside the village so we are safe in here. A shiver runs through me as I think about Demons. They attacked my village multiple times until the gate was put up. No one knows how they even came into existence.

"I wonder what really is out there." I mumble to myself as I lean my head on the cool metal of the gate. A breeze passes by as I let it ruffle my black hair. One day I'm going to get out of here and see what is beyond this village. There must be more people! More friends! Maybe there is someone shorter than me who I can actually hug!

I open my eyes as excitement takes over me. Instead of meeting with the usual view of plain trees a pair of violet eyes stare me down. I step back from the gate as a small whimper comes from my mouth. What is that? Where did it come from? I rub my eyes with my hands thinking its just a trick. When I reopen them, the violet eyes are gone. I slowly walk away from the gate and walk towards the celebration. Yeah, it was nothing anyway.

Playing with the children made me forget about what I saw soon enough. Mother comes to decorate and braid my hair with flowers. As I sit in front of her with my back facing her I think about how nervous I am. I never liked being with crowds of people. It makes me feel suffocated and my breathing becomes harsher. Suddenly all the excitement I had for the celebration is drained out of me. I quickly face my mom and take her hands in mine.

"Mama I don't want to go." I look at her eyes pleadingly.

"Snowflake you have to get over this shyness you have! Baby I know its hard but you will have fun trust me! If you feel too suffocated play with the children then. This village is your family; you have to be a part of their celebration!" Mother sighs while kissing my cheeks.

"I have full faith that you will enjoy this evening. We all will have so much fun!" I take a deep breath and calm my racing heart. I will have fun; I will have fun. I open my eyes and nod to my mother.

"That's my brave snowflake." I giggle and smile at her.

The day goes by and soon enough the celebration starts. I walk towards the chief with my family and congratulate him and his family.

"I'm glad little Scarlett could make it." The chief said in his rough voice. I blush and hide myself close to mother.

"She's still shy as a snowflake" Father whispers and everyone laughs. I walk towards the food table and look at the dessert. Sweet things have always been my weakness. I slowly pop a piece of chocolate in my mouth and moan at the taste. Why can't I eat chocolate forever? I wonder to myself as I put another one in my mouth.

I stand a while near the table eating chocolate pieces until I realize that I hear nothing. I don't hear any singing, no laughter, no chatter nothing. Instinct nudges me to go back to the crowd where my family is. Something is wrong.

I walk slowly and softly until I see what's going on. I gasp and cover my mouth quickly. I hide behind a tree and watch. I want to go to mother and father but they will see me. 2 large men dressed in black stand near the bonfire and watch all the villagers like hawks.

Everyone is silent and no one moves an inch. I see the men move forward and that's when hell breaks loose. The men of the village attack and so do the 2 large men. More men in black capes come from the gates of the village and a war is what begins.

I cry out and stumble backwards as I see my village being killed and slaughtered ruthlessly. I see a child crying and that's when I push my fears aside. At least I can run with the child and find my parents. I take a deep breath and run into the battle. I run and run ignoring the cries of humans and demons alike. My goal is the child and when I grab him a breath of relief comes from me. That relief is short lived as I see father being stabbed in the heart.

No scream comes out of me. Nothing. I'm silent as I stare at my father's body falling to the ground. I hold the child tighter in my arms as I watch my whole family dying. I can't do anything but watch. That's when I hear a growl behind me. I slowly turn around and look at the dark figure. The only word that comes to mind is big.

The man towers over me and I crane my neck to look up. The only thing I see is a pair of violet eyes. I take a step back and whimper as I remember those eyes. The man growls and takes a deep breath. I take one more step back and prepare myself to run.

"Mine" the man snarls and I see a pair of fangs. I'm shaking from fear while holding the child tighter to myself.

"Please let us go. At least let the child go." I whisper brokenly as I stare up at the man who has my life in his hands.

The man is silent as I beg and plead in front of him. Slowly the man starts to walk towards me and I start walk back. Suddenly he grabbed the child right out of me and I scream. I try to grab the child back but the man holds me at an arms distance. I keep on struggling to get the child until a sickening crack is heard.

I stop and stare as the man throws the dead child to the floor. A cold sense of dread and reality kicked me hard about what just happened. I stared at the dead child on the ground. My whole body was numb and I did not know how to react.

And when the first snowflake fell from the sky followed by millions more, a heart wrenching scream pierced through the sky so loud that even the gods above shook with sadness...
