"Who are and how'd you get into my house?" I asked still a bit panicked.
"I'm Calum. I used to live here-until I died".

I was confused and shocked, how is this even possible? I don't understand how I can see a dead boy in my room. How have I never seen him before?

He was looking at me, waiting for everything to sink in. Then, he continued, I've known you ever since you were born, you lived here all your life and so have I. I watched you grow up and waited patiently, till your 18th birthday to finally introduce myself.

I nodded "Well hello then. So was it you that kept dropping things, making weird sounds and footstep noises?" I asked Calum to confirm my suspicions.

"Oh, yeah, sorry about that. Sometimes I'd accidentally bump into things." He snatched his neck sheepishly. I laughed at the boys shyness.

"Wait, where's your family?" I asked curiously.

"They made it to the other side, while I stayed here." He looked down, sadly.
I looked at him and felt my stomach sink. There poor boy had been separated from his family for years and stuck inside his house, which would be a constant reminder, I thought.

I looked at the time, it was pretty early;
4:47

I looked at Calum and then at myself. I had covered myself in my blanket because it had gotten colder. The reason why was simple, there was a dead person in my bed. Alright, not that simple but that's the reality of things at the moment.

He was a very pretty boy to say the least. His brown eyes were big and puppy like. His dark curly hair was messy, which I liked.

I noticed that I was beginning to stare so, I glanced down. "Why did you choose to show me now?" I was curious as to why he never showed himself earlier than today.

"I wanted you to live a normal life with no problems at home and to enjoy yourself. I showed myself to you now because I knew you'd be more accepting and open minded." A small smile appeared on the ghostly boys face.

I was in fact, more open minded to new things than I was years ago. He explained more to me about spirits and the different worlds, him being in the middle realm for disembodied spirits. He said it was called the further and all kinds of souls roamed it.

He warned me to never try to make contact with the souls of the dead because it can be extremely dangerous. All kinds of spirits wandered the middle. Angry and tainted spirits were not to be messed with and he made me swear to never try to communicate with any spirit from the middle, except for him. There weren't many spirits who had kept a kind heart.

By the end of his stories I had goosebumps all over my body. Story time had taken quite awhile. I turned my head to check the time again.

6:15

I realized that my parents would get up around this time and that I had to pretend that I was sleeping again. I heard a knock at my door and I quickly turned onto my side, facing Calum. I closed my eyes and stayed still, slightly blushing at how close I was to Calum's face.

"Happy birthday, Alex!" My parents said in a sing song voice. This birthday  won't be quite like the others.
