"No, Christopher, really, I'm fine. I'll go back to class, really." I pressed, letting go of his hand.

"Jinx," He sighed " You can't. You have to stay here until the day is over. If you go back to class you may faint again, which would only land in you coming back here." He spoke softly and calmly, but the stern expression on his pale face told me he wasn't backing down anytime soon.

"Fine." I said, trying to remain calm.

"Good," the nurse said, as she turned to leave the room, "I'll go and tell your teachers where you both are. I'll be back soon."

she left, leaving an awkward silence in the air which was broken soon after, by Christopher saying: "Well, I don't know about you, but she's really creepy."he laughed.

I didn't like being in this cramped room, there were no windows making me feel as if I was a caged wolf pleading to be set free.... To be wild once more.

"I need to get out of here." I told Christopher, sternly.

"Jinx," he sighed again, running his hand through his brown hair, "We've been through this. You have to stay here until the end of the day."

"You don't understand," I said desperately, "I have to."

"I'm not that ugly,Jinx." He pulled an upset face which looked more like he had just been hit in the face by a frying pan. I couldn't help but laugh.

"Ah! So, the princess of darkness does laugh!" He said, laughing as well.

I stopped laughing and stared at him."What did you just call me?" I asked slowly.

"Er, the princess of darkness," He admitted," I didn't mean it meanly. I only said it because you seem all mysterious and dark and you seem like a person who keeps to themselves and doesn't say much and well blend in with the shadows and-"

I cut him off." It's fine Christopher, really. It's got a nice ring to it." I smiled to assure him it was fine.

He returned the smile and relaxed once more. We sat in silence for a while until Christopher said " You know what?"

"Hmmm?" I responded.

"This could be the perfect opportunity for us to get to know each other."  He added.

I sighed,'Here comes the questions I thought.'

"Okay,"I told him," You go first."

"Alright," He said with another smile," Lets' start with the basics. How old are you?"

"Fifteen," I said, " Sixteen on October thirty-first."

"Your birthday is on Halloween?" He asked curiously.

"Yep," I said, " It's a lot easier to remember as I get sweets from strangers who always seem to stare at me strangely when I wear normal clothes instead of a costume. I mean, what is scarier than a normal person." I added, smiling.

Christopher started to laugh, throwing his head back like a little kid who just got told the funniest joke ever.

"Okay," he said, "This year we are going trick or treating together. Now it's your turn to ask me a question."

"Okay, whats your favorite color?"

"I've never really thought about it.Hmm. I would say grey, the sort of grey that is found just as it turns dawn. A sort of neutral color. D'you know what I mean?" He said.

"Yeah." I sighed.

"What's yours?" he asked.

"Hmm? Oh, mine? Blood purple. Like in-between a red and a purple, but quite dark." I answered.

"Cool."Christopher said , smiling still.

" Okay, my turn," I told him," When is your birthday?"

"Nineteenth of April."He said.

"So,"I said," Your a spring lamb." I laughed.

"Aye,"He said, smiling widely, " And you are still the princess of darkness."

All those years of people calling me names and picking on me made me think that I'll never find a place in this world were at least one person would accept me or even attempt to get to know me. I guess I have found that place after all, because whether I liked it or not I was starting to settle in at this school. And it may not be like in my books but I plan to stay here longer than any of the rest from my past. I would make this work.... No matter what.

I had a feeling, also, that Christopher might be there to help me along the way. This then made me realize, that one day he'll find out. And when he does he'll be in danger and a scary thought is that it's the sort of danger that I don't know if I'll ever have the power to protect him when the time comes.
